Wow its about time I became a member on here... been lurking for years.

I have a small budget and I wanted to build a multi purpose rig.. It has to be able to be decent on the street and fun off road, It actually fills both right now but rides like crap, its a 79 k5 sitting on d44/14b rear is welded and has 4.10s its got some homebrew front springs built from a 4 inch rough country my dad put on years ago, rear has blocks. No sway bar and has 36/14.5/16.5 tsl radials. 350/350 all built.
steering is stock too.

I have a few ideas, the budget is around 2500.
Steering is prob the most important especially if I plan to beat on it at any speed, it get pretty gnarly bumpsteer right now.

Part of me wants to just but a bds or skyjacker kit and bolt it on and forget about it.. good enough for everything... I have no idea how they ride but they swear(i called them) they ride pretty good.

I also called Deaver, national, atlas, ord, about custom springs. Of course they are all around 1500 a pair or more.

Radius arms are also a possibility using a coil to keep costs down and some bilsteins or comparable monotube shocks. FOA maybee but I keep hearing bad stuff so not sure there..

I dont want to spend the money and regret that I didnt do something else.

While it has to be family friendly I want to be able to cruise through the desert decently. I ride offroad and mx so I dont really like going 20 down dirt road knowing full well a set of good springs and shocks would put me down that road easily twice that fast..

I cannot seem to find a comprimise, the closest I have found was to do the 52 swap stick some 56s in the rear, run some decent shocks and play with springs until I get it right..

anyone got any suggestions.. I have pretty detailed cost analysis of this if anyone is intrested.

I run stock steering and a cheepo, rancho steering stabilizer, seems to help alot. But I also run 33" tires so I have decent clearance with the 4" lift. $2500 is a good start but money = speed the faster you go the more things rattle apart and break. I'll chime in later cuz I'm at work right now

I have to ask, you mean they gave you pricing of $1500 for all 4 springs correct? I have a set of ORD springs on the front of my '70 and it was a little over $600 for the pair. I can tell you that I will never waste my money on "kit" springs ever again. You have to experience the difference to believe it. I scrapped my Tuff-country springs.

Spend the money on shocks and bump stops. The blocks have to go. Soft springs that hold the weight. Control it with shocks. Cross over steering.

I would save some more money and wait for good shocks. FOA are a risk.

SBD deaver told me that the stock steering would be fine??? I was thinking of using heirs to get more angle out of it. I have a line on kings a friend works for them and he's going to check if he can get me some rebuilt or cosmetically defective 2.0s

I run crossover and no stabilizer at all. And its better than it was stock height and steering. (now 4" Custom ORD springs front and shackle flip rear)

And ORD custom springs are $630 a pair. NOT $1500

And if your budget is $2500, I hope that works for you. Did not even come close for me.

Well this got me thinking about packaging the Panhard and crossover. you basically moved it to the other side away from everything! Genius!

Wade what made you go 3 link in the front vs parallel 4 link or rad arms?
I also noticed your truck jumps nose high why is that?

I am studying your build! Mwahahaha cool stuff

Simplicity of the 3 link.

Truck is balanced front to back. 100 pounds heavier in the front. It does start to nose over with enough air time. Standing on the throttle as you go up something keeps the nose up. Most people roll over jumps, stay in it until the back tires release. Practice.

Well i got brakelines from napa today so i can toss the spare 11 inch travel procrap mx6s on see if i ca squeeze a little more outa these springs...

Has anyone tried these spring sliders? They seem like a great Idea, I might try a set.

I wouldn't waste time with those sliders.

Ord spec'd alcan springs up front.
Shackle flip out back with stock springs.
Crossover steering.
Ditch those tsl's for something from bfg or goodyear in a 35.
Find some new (on sale) or used quality rebuildable shocks and roll.

Any reason why? I like the fact the roll center doesnt change as much or at all with these, also makes it more stable on the road so I dont have the loose noodle thing going on..

Ditto on the tires.

Still waiting to hear back from my buddie from King on those 2.0 smooth body resi's.

And it works real well when it's new. Throw some mud, sand and road crap into it, and I see binding issues.

10-4, has anyone run the bilstein 5125s? I like that I can order custom length and pick my valving.. If I was to keep my romps to short stints would these work for now?

I run 5150's up front, 5125's out back and my friend runs the 7100 (I believe that's the number) with the detached reservoir and they've all been good shocks.
