Wow its about time I became a member on here... been lurking for years.
I have a small budget and I wanted to build a multi purpose rig.. It has to be able to be decent on the street and fun off road, It actually fills both right now but rides like crap, its a 79 k5 sitting on d44/14b rear is welded and has 4.10s its got some homebrew front springs built from a 4 inch rough country my dad put on years ago, rear has blocks. No sway bar and has 36/14.5/16.5 tsl radials. 350/350 all built.
steering is stock too.
I have a few ideas, the budget is around 2500.
Steering is prob the most important especially if I plan to beat on it at any speed, it get pretty gnarly bumpsteer right now.
Part of me wants to just but a bds or skyjacker kit and bolt it on and forget about it.. good enough for everything... I have no idea how they ride but they swear(i called them) they ride pretty good.
I also called Deaver, national, atlas, ord, about custom springs. Of course they are all around 1500 a pair or more.
Radius arms are also a possibility using a coil to keep costs down and some bilsteins or comparable monotube shocks. FOA maybee but I keep hearing bad stuff so not sure there..
I dont want to spend the money and regret that I didnt do something else.
While it has to be family friendly I want to be able to cruise through the desert decently. I ride offroad and mx so I dont really like going 20 down dirt road knowing full well a set of good springs and shocks would put me down that road easily twice that fast..
I cannot seem to find a comprimise, the closest I have found was to do the 52 swap stick some 56s in the rear, run some decent shocks and play with springs until I get it right..
anyone got any suggestions.. I have pretty detailed cost analysis of this if anyone is intrested.
