Does this connecting rod look too bent to reuse? (Or is it supposed to look like this)

As far as springs go cleaning them up is it ok to sandblast ?

And just for shi*$ and grins pic of what I found for the steering box repair from PO.

That draglink looks like trashbin material....I wouldn't try to save ANY of it.

Sandblasting springs is fine. If you want to do it right, just go buy a few replacement center pins, then disassemble the pack and clean/paint each leaf seperately.

Steering box...... well, better you than me I guess. :dunno:

Thanks. So you guys call that a drag link- chiltons called it a connecting rod.
On that steering box thing got the (ORD weld in) today and was wondering if anybody else has installed it and if I should trim it on the bottom so it does not hang lower than the frame. Is there any pics of one installed?
PS:Love it when UPS stops and drops presents

Cutting it off probably wont hurt, but you could also bend it back around the frame and weld the edges down?

Likely you can bump the whole plate slightly upwards centering it better on the frame. Seeing as it's been poorly repaired once the holes you currently have might not be so reliable.

Secondly, there is a bottom plate that still need to go on, and it butts into that big sideplate so you do want a little overhang in that area.

Make sure to follow the weld instructions carefully. If you just weld the whole thing solid you'll introduce some nasty stress risers in that area of the frame and will have to do an even more involved fix later.

Suppose I should of just made a build thread but I had no idea I was going to take a truck that was running and store it in ziploc bags and boxes around my property. LOL
So finished up the steering box weld on part, removed the old rear shackle hangers (boy those factory rivets are not fooling around when it comes to connecting things to the frame). a couple of the body mount thingys, the front shackle hangers both axles, poped ok well drilled & beat all but 2 of the old bushings out then put the frame on horses in the garage.
My ? is how do you take those spring packs apart are they just pressed on that center pin? and I don't care what anybody says but when you buy something that is a (Bolt on ) item don't beleive it 100% maybe 80% at most.
