Just Found and joined the Forum. Have a problem in locating a part for my 86 K5 4X4 Gas. Someone in the past put a "pitman" or steering arm on the drivers side for a lift. However, nothing else is for a lift kit. I need a stock "Flat" steering arm, 3 bolts no lift. Thought it would be easy to find, it is not. Any help would be appreciated.

You said "3 bolts" so I'm assuming you have either a 10 bolt or a dana 44 front axle?

The three bolts refers to the way the steering arm is held on at one end. If you google "steering arm 86 Blazer" It will bring up several examples for sale (raised) and a Utube video of how to change it. I am not sure what front axle I have.

Do you have a picture of what you're looking for? I have a stock steering arm that I've been meaning to swap out.
Please see prior reply - At the moment I don't have picture, but google "steering arm 86 K5 Blazer" will give several pictures of the part for sale (raised) none for stock or not raised.

Ok, is your differential cover round (oval) like this one?

Or is it angled like this one?

It should be the round style GM 8.5" differential if it is the stock 1986 axle. But GM used both axles in square-bodied trucks, and they get swapped around.

If yours is a 10-bolt, I have a stock steering arm that I am planning on swapping out for a lifted arm. Shoot me an offer if you're interested.

Measure the vertical distance between the draglink end and the axle tube.

In this picture, the vertical distance from the bottom of the arm (by the nut) to the top of the axle tube. On stock trucks the nut isn't too far from touching as it rotates past the tube. Make sure the nut is over the tube so you get a vertical measurement. Common steering arm mods are 2" and 4" above stock height. I'm curious as to what arm you have.

If you have a 2" lift arm on your truck now, I'd let you have the stock one for cost of postage plus your old arm. I have a stock arm (too short) and a 4" lift arm (too tall) to put on my 3" lifted truck.

That's why I asked for that measurement.

I just picking on you . :woot: that's my old k30 I just cut up and recycled . that was 4" lift springs then dana 60 and h2 rims & tires. @campfire

Congrats on achieving Google status.

Pretty funny that "steering arm 86 K5 Blazer" turned up a shot of a '79 K30 plow truck with a D60. :rotfl:

Even funnier that it was still the best illustration handy.

Here are pictures of my rigs (yes, I own full copyright to these images).

My stock-height Blazer has a 2" lift arm and it's about 2.5" from bottom of arm to top of axle tube:

The 4" steering arm was about 2" taller (makes sense, no?).

This is not the best drag link angle, folks.

My Suburban has the opposite problem. 3" lift springs and stock steering arm. Also not optimal drag link geometry, but this time it's sloping downward instead of upward.

Gap here is just over an inch.

Hope that helps.

Mine is 4 inches measured as in your picture. my email is [email protected] please contact me with address and details if you would like to exchange. Let me know if that is not the correct way to handle this. I am new but am very interested in this board and threads. Have had the K5 several years - long not good story - and now have pretty much every thing in running order.
