What up guys, i need sum help, im building a shop in the back side of my yard for my gunsmithing buisness, but also to store tools to work on my truck. Now i was just gonna build a slab next door to work on it and park on but the wife says if im gonna build a shop i need to make it big enough to park the blazer in or im not gonna be happy down the road. So my question is how tall should i make the shop? when my trucks done ill have 6" lift and 38.5's, so anyone with the same combo wanna measure the size of their truck or if they have a shop how tall is it. thanks alot guys.

I have 7 inches of lift on front and 10 in back and sitting on 37 inch krawlers. My garage door has a 9'3" foot high opening and I did 10 foot side walls. My truck is 7'1" at its highest and that is with the cage going 3 1/2" above top of windshield frame. I also had the foundation made so I have like 4 inches of concrete up from the floor so if needed I can wash the floor off without getting the walls all wet on the bottom. I angled the floor slightly away from the side walls and angled toward the garage door so the water would run out the garage door in case I wash the floor to prep for painting.

Mine is stick built with siding. You might consider if doing it this way to have the trusses made for an attic for some extra storage. I also wired it for 220 and put all the plug ins 4 feet off the floor. I hate bending down to plug tools in.

I know 3 on the tree is doing a metal building so he can school you on that type.

If I had lots of money and was to do it over I would make it so I could have a hoist inside of the shop. Need to hit the lottery for that though.

I think you are going to want a 10 ft door. The door height kind of dictates ceiling heigth. I have two 10 ft doors and a 13 ft ceiling. I hope to get a lift someday so that is the reason for the ceiling heigth. I don't know much about construction but when I was building mine I should have made the shop about 6 ft longer really wouldn't have cost me much more to do. So when you are getting estimates figure up the biggest you think you would want ( I mean really dream here) and the smallest you could put up with. That way you will have the extremes of prices.

If I ever get the chance to build another shop, I will design it to what I think I want and then add 4 to 8 ft every where:D
