Finally got most if not all of the PO’s dumbassery fixed or replaced on the blazer and now it’s time to start having some fun. Recently got 4.88’s and lockers installed. I’m a power junkie and need to scratch that itch. Current motor is a 4 bolt 350 bored 60 over with a flat tappet RV cam and an edelbrock intake. Is there a decent roller conversion cam kit I can pick up? I’ve got a spare roller vortec block I’m planning on doing a 383 with so I’d like things I can swap over to it but I’ve gotta scratch this itch now. If I could find a decent roller cam conversion and aluminum head kit for a decent price that would be great.

So unless your current block is late enough to do factory roller stuff, you're looking at a $1k buy in for roller cam and parts

Any clue what the generic RV is? Typically they are made by companies that make other parts, Melling for example. Some are really good, some leave a lot of Power on the table

How's the exhaust on this? An upgrade there will be a power gain you can carry over to the next power plant

Vintage should be between 83-84.

No clue on the generic RV cam.

Current exhaust is long tubes with true dual 2.5”. Nothing to leave on the table there.

I should just go ahead and buy the Weiand supercharger kit I keep eyeing for $2500. That would add plenty and then transfer nicely to a forged and balanced 383.

Beyond the blower (as much fun as that would be), what would y'all look at doing first? New converter? New set of heads? Most anything I do should//would transfer over to the new motor. Just looking for thoughts and opinions really. Truck mainly gets street driven but it will see rocks a couple of times a year.

Presumably you want a roller for the other block, I’d go straight to the heads. I’d like to know what cam is in it, so I’d either pull it and look for stampings or degree it

What intake are you running?
And if you are gonna spend money, hit @folkenheath up. These types of questions are what he fixes

Did I hear more power? arh arh arh!

I can help if you want heads, cam, supercharger, whatever. In addition to Edelbrock and Holley, I can also get all their brands, including Weiand and Comp cams. Also Edelbrock, Dart, or RHS cylinder heads, etc. I can help you pick out a combination that would work together if you want. I also can get EFI to work with any of it if you need, Edelbrock, Holley, or FAST. I like HP too. :D:burnout:

Buy some good heads now. Then you can transfer them a new 383 shortblock later.

It’s a dual plane edelbrock. Nothing fancy. The other block is a 97 vortec factory roller so yes it’ll get a roller cam. I was going to swap the vortec heads on to this motor but it got expensive and I said nah and sold them.

Heads are where I’m leaning towards. Those with some roller rockers should be a nice little bump.

@folkenheath Ill send you a note.

@TJ1978 Plan on teaching my daughter how to build an engine. She helped me tear the spare one apart.

It's not always an option for everyone, but I always prefer to build an engine vs buy a crate engine.

1- I really like power
2 - A crate engine is not customized to what I want to do with it. Sometimes I even customize the cam because I can't find a grind I like for my combo.
3 - I can usually build an engine cheaper than buying one.
4 - I like to make sure its correct and not a mass produced number.
5 - I enjoy building the engine, I find it fascinating how everything works at the speed it does.

Missed one....

6- Turbo.

I keep contemplating that on this truck. Would be awesome to spool up at a light and light up the 37's.
