Need way\'s to remove axle bearings *yawn, that was to easy!*

Gonna attempt to remove both passenger, and driver side axle bearings in my 12 bolt. Is there certain step's in remove, and installing them? Thanks guy's.. /forums/images/graemlins/usaflag.gif

Re: Need way\'s to remove axle bearings

when you pull them you can use the end of the shaft to pull the seal off and the bearing should then come out.replace the seal so you dont leak your gear oil.

That's a job where a large slide hammer can be your friend. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif The bearings fit into the ends of the axle tubes pretty tightly. A slide hammer with a hook end can grab the inner edge of the bearing and slowly beat it out of there from the inside.

Re: Need way\'s to remove axle bearings

I agree... A hook and a slide hammer will probally work the best for getting the bearing and seal out...
The bearing is a pressed fit in the end of the 12 bolt housing...

When i broke an axle on the side of the road i had to get that broken bearing race out with the handle of the jack..
I spent about 15 minutes prying back and forth with the pipe handle of the jack and finally got it to come out...
Where theres a will...theres a way. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

You can "rent" (give money which they will give you back when you return the tool) a slide-hammer-bearing-puller from your local AutoZone (or similar store). It's worth it as to not mark the housing using something else. If you were stranded on the side of the road it would be one thing, but why risk hurting something when you don't have to.

Well I rented a slide-hammer from Kragen. It cost $6- and a total of 10 mins to pull BOTH bearings out! Thanks for the info guy's!
