Need Your opinion on this k20 I'm lokking at. update!!

I think the 1980 model had a mix of front ends. Some were basically 79s with round headlights and some had the square. I thought some of them had some grill features specific to 1980 only.
Yes the center grille on that 1980 truck he's looking at was the only year it was used on the pickups. And they did use both round and rectangular headlights & bezels that year. Silverado & Cheyenne trim got the rectangular headlights, Scottsdale, Bonanza, & Custom Deluxe got the round ones.

Did he give any info on the 700r4 swap? Curious, cause that isn't a stock trans in a 3/4 ton truck, would be a th400. Hope it works out though!

alot of 3/4 tons had th350 transmissions as well as 400's, it depends on gvw and engine.
looks like a clean truck (especially where you live) and it even appears that the correct 700r4 indicator is on the instrument cluster, so hopefully the rest of the swap was as well thought out.

Yes everything appears to be done right. It has a painless harness, with the fuse box, and the typical computer in the glove box. It has a 208.

What Craig said above.... ^^^^

So i checked it out last night, and evrything looked pretty clean. So i picked it up for 5 grand. drove it an hour half home doin 65. beside the little play in the steering wheel, and the rough suspension, it drove damn good for a 30 year old truck.

The Bad
It has rear 6" blocks, wich have to go asap
The exhaust is dumped under the cab- I can just extend it to under the bed
It definitly is sluggish with the 4.10s and 37's I do have a set of 35's on wheels just laying around. i can throw them on.
steering wheel has play, I have an xj shaft thats can go on it.

The good
The body is in really nice shape, has no bondo. The Paint is shiny
The interior is sweet, no rips or cracks in anything. Stock radio also
overall a nice truck.

Good to hear man.:thumb:

I say shackle flip the rear then drop the front to 4" and run those 35's all day.

I'd almost say drop it to 33's but that's just me. After the heavy ass 38's on Big Ugly I just really can't justify the effort and expense necessary to own and operate a truck on tires that big. Still, 35's are fairly common and not that big anymore.

I have the 35's sitting in my garage so thats gonna be the easiest route. My wife thinks i should keep the 37's on. I just want it to be enjoyable to drive, and reliable.

True. Thing have crossover?

You can always throw the 37's in the garage and build a beater or wait and regear the axles.

No crossover, it has that angle correction draglink by superlift.
I'm probably gonna sell the tires to fund the things i want to do now with the truck. I will get some pics after i get out of work. It was dark when i got back.

My wife just sent a pic of the truck.

Looks good! In terms of tire sizing, and gearing, with the 700r4, i would suggest going deeper than you think.

4.10's and 35's on an OD trans may not be enough. So consider regearing for your current 37's before you drop down to 35's, and realize you still don't have enough gearing.

Too tall of gear is the first thing that will overheat and kill that trans.

Also, verify that you have a BIG aftermarket cooler on that trans. If not, it will be money well spent.

This is my writeup on my trans cooler install. Most will be the same, but all your line/fitting sizes should be double checked.

I'm gonna look for the trans cooler, and see whats there. I'm not touching these axles. I'm gonna end up goin with 1 tons by next summer. I just want the truck to last through the winter without any major repair. Thanks for the trans cooler link.
