I driver about 60,000 miles a year in my 78 2wd blazer. I got sick of using a vehicle that won't fit my sales samples or me very good. I have a 89 4wd Jimmy I've had for about 12 years now and I have always loved K5's. So I was looking for a 2wd in decent shape that I could swap a Fuel Injected motor into. I ended up finding my 78 with a TPI out of a 87 camaro in it. It runs great but it came with a TH350. I swapped in a 700R4 that was suspect and it did not last very long.
I was going to rebuild a spare 700R4 I had laying around but time constraints caused me to look to buy one. I bought a level 2 700R4 from BowTie Overdrives.
It is rated at 450HP and 500FT of Torque. It cost a little under $1800 to be shipped to my door in southern Utah. I got it with the torque converter and the installers kit.
It took me about 4hrs to swap out the old 700R4 and put the new one in, test it, calibrate it, and sign up for the warranty.
It comes with a 1yr unlimited mileage warranty if you set it up like they want you to.
To set it up, you first have to have the correct TV cable etc...
The other main thing they require is to use a pressure gauge hooked up to the pressure port on the side. You go through various steps, recording the pressures as you go. Once they, and you are satisfied, you are good to go.
I cannot say enough how pleased I am with this transmission. It feels like I gained about 75-100 more HP just because the transmission acts like it should. I am now getting 22mpg flat land, and 17mpg going on the 70 through the mountains of Colorado.
If anybody is looking for a transmission, I HIGHLY recommend them. Quality work.
If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask. I did not take any pics as it was all pretty straightforward.

Good to hear that it worked out. 60K a year is a lot to put on an old Blazer with today's gas prices, but you might as well have a vehicle that does what you want and works for you!

Congrats on the good result. It's painful when you spend that much and have to keep tweaking afterwards.

Quick question, how much did you have to manipulate the TV cable using the pressure method versus just the factory 'pull to WOT' method?

BowTie runs the trans in a vehicle before they end it off to make sure everything looks and feels good. So that being said, for my installation I literally set the TV per GM specs and then all my pressured lined up to an acceptable manner.
I did have the shorten my cable a bit at first though. It pulled the inner ratchet part out all the way. I also had to do the typical check to see if I was getting WOT at full depression of the pedal. After all that it was a snap.

I'm just gonna leave a permanent trans pressure gauge in my dash when I do my BTO 700... well, actually under the cowl hood lip..

I'm gonna run the stage 2 RMVB one from them... good to hear the happy review... :D

Not a bad idea on the pressure gauge. I am keeping my 78 fairly stock looking so I won't do that. But I might just steal your idea for my 89. I'm also going to order a stage 3 to put behind my 454 in my 65 Bel Air. That way I can keep my 3.90 gears in my 9".
I was using the 78 as a guinea pig for there work. And if I wasn't sold before, I am now.
Are they charging you extra for the Reverse Manual Valve Body?

the trans is 2500 plus the converter..and yeah, far from stock here.. :haha:

Not bad! And given the quality of your work, it will provide years of excellent service.

I find this hard to believe........:dunno:

sounds like marketing hype....

Not saying it's not true....just seems a little extreme for a company that is supposed to be on top of their game in rebuilding transmissions... Seems like building it to proper specs would suffice....

Highjack on.

Kanab Utah? Where were you when I spent 6 weeks there last year? Was looking for someone to wheel with. The local club would not give me the time of day. Stupid Jeepers. We still did over 200 miles of dirt.

Highjack off.

Marketing hype or not, their warranty is pretty awesome and this has been the best trans I've had.
I've had some from Phoenix Transmissions and it was good but this was better. And granted I've never had one from PAC but as it is, I probably won't need one. But PAC's Raptor does have pretty awesome specs.

Man, if I'm not working, (usually in Colorado), then I'm usually out getting in the dirt. I live on Main Street. Can't miss me. My 78 K5 2wd is black and slammed, my 89 K5 is huge, and my 65 Bel Air is sitting there ready to scare old ladies and little kids. If all 3 are there, then I am home. Always willing to wheel or hike. I know of a lot of BITCHING slot canyons.

Drove byyour place when I was there. Almost knocked on the door. But some of the people there are really bazar, so I passed. Maybe next time, because there is a lot there to see. My wife and I work part time at the gift shop at the east curve while we were there.

You work at Denny's Wigwam?Kinda cool that you come down and work in Kanab. It is a great part of the country. Minus the weirdos associated with any cool place. Stop by anytime!
