New 700R4 from BowTie Overdrives

I find this hard to believe........:dunno:

sounds like marketing hype....

Not saying it's not true....just seems a little extreme for a company that is supposed to be on top of their game in rebuilding transmissions... Seems like building it to proper specs would suffice....

I was curious about that too.
Here is the link.

I suspect that if you got a look at those two cars, you would find some interesting mods.
Quick release fasteners on crossmembers, Probably heavily modified crossmembers also.
Probably no floorpan, or a large easily removable access panel and other tricks.
I bet they can swap a tranny in 30 minutes or less.

I totally agree. Only makes sense. Would make me look like a hack taking 4hrs to swap them....

I highly doubt they install and drive any 700R4 that is 4x4 trans as they would have to install a 2wd output and then test drive then completely disassemble the trans to install the 4wd output shaft since it is the first piece that gets installed.

I driver about 60,000 miles a year in my 78 2wd blazer. I got sick of using a vehicle that won't fit my sales samples or me very good. I have a 89 4wd Jimmy I've had for about 12 years now and I have always loved K5's. So I was looking for a 2wd in decent shape that I could swap a Fuel Injected motor into. I ended up finding my 78 with a TPI out of a 87 camaro in it. It runs great but it came with a TH350. I swapped in a 700R4 that was suspect and it did not last very long.
I was going to rebuild a spare 700R4 I had laying around but time constraints caused me to look to buy one. I bought a level 2 700R4 from BowTie Overdrives.
It is rated at 450HP and 500FT of Torque. It cost a little under $1800 to be shipped to my door in southern Utah. I got it with the torque converter and the installers kit.
It took me about 4hrs to swap out the old 700R4 and put the new one in, test it, calibrate it, and sign up for the warranty.
It comes with a 1yr unlimited mileage warranty if you set it up like they want you to.
To set it up, you first have to have the correct TV cable etc...
The other main thing they require is to use a pressure gauge hooked up to the pressure port on the side. You go through various steps, recording the pressures as you go. Once they, and you are satisfied, you are good to go.
I cannot say enough how pleased I am with this transmission. It feels like I gained about 75-100 more HP just because the transmission acts like it should. I am now getting 22mpg flat land, and 17mpg going on the 70 through the mountains of Colorado.
If anybody is looking for a transmission, I HIGHLY recommend them. Quality work.
If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask. I did not take any pics as it was all pretty straightforward.

Second that recommendation. Though mine was installed behind a 210,000 mile tbi350. Still a great drive on the weekends, now at 240,000-ish(odometer broke at 217,000). Still getting asked at work if Im looking to sell it :doah:

Exactly my point.

.

An adapter could be made. Iam considering a 4x4 700r4 for my flatbottom boat. Already has the short tail shaft, so it will fit. I just have to machine an adapter for the mount and to hold a custom output shaft that will bolt directly to the v-drive.

Might be why they have a pair of test drive mules? Perhaps the second one is set up to test 4WD versions...

Just a note of caution on BTO. I ordered a stage 3 transmission from them and blew it up in under 1k miles. I was in automotive school at the time and we took it apart. It had none of the stage three parts in it and had basically a stage 1 build. It was out of warranty but we called BTO and sent them some pictures. They sent a new transmission and it had the right parts and I havent had a problem since.
