Got my new rear bumper today from diy4x and man am I impressed. I have already sprayed it down with carb cleaner and waiting for it to dry before I spray it with a coat of primer. Pics to follow soon.

better get some dx330 wax/grease remover.

brake/carb clean will leave a film of junk .

and if brand new steel best sand the whole thing first to scuff it up or the paint will peal off in chuncks if hit.

then zinc, blah, blah... :haha:

and x 2 on carb cleaner... just buy a gallon of denatured alcohol for $9 and clean whatever your ever gonna paint.. done deal....

The best test for whether carb cleaner leaves a film or not is to see if it has alcohol in it. If you get it on your skin and it gets really cold and you feel it osmosis into your skin then it wont leave a film :D

Its the stuff they put in it to replace the alcohol that leaves the film. I know gumout and brakleen is still good alcohol stuff.

why bother is my thought.. carb cleaner is expensive as all he!!.. a $10 gallon of denatured will dewax multiple WHOLE cars, parts, etc...

Is denatured good for cleaning tools, parts, etc....?

Oh and am I the only one that chuckled at Ryoken advising Zinc? lol

I believe I was the clown suggesting a zinc coating. Never heard a yay or nay on astro turf :dunno:

Denatured alcohol. Good stuff. GREAT for cleaning out air systems too. (on a vehicle)

All our steel leaves the shop with a fair bit of "tooth" already on the surfaces.

I like brake kleen for knocking off the oils and such. Dries fast and leaves nothing behind. Just don't use it in the same area as a welder and then weld shortly there after.

Nasty stuff hangs in the air and you can surely tell when somebody has used it.

non body shop guys are such non body shop guys...

it's all you EVER need for any dewaxing/prep.....

Its all I use now for doing prep, when he mentioned it to me a long time ago. Its good stuff

I don't know whats going on got the new i phone 4 the other day and having trouble with the email. Just hang with me ya'll. I've got one coat of primer n it and I am going to wait until Saturday to paint it. It's just to cold in our warehouse right now. 15 degrees outside.

That's pretty cold for paint. Although I did manage to paint a front clip the other day. Some propane ice house heaters work nice for warming things like that up just a bit.
