new dd * HELP ME UPGRADE

wow, a ck5'er with an Aveo. What do you think of it? I am going to buy one for my wife in the August/September/October time frame. We're going with the 5 door one. '07s come out in August, so they will hopefully have an incentive or two on the old '06s. I have $1k in GM card cash too. Anyway, how has the car been for ya? which one do you have? auto? manual?

j

I got the Sedan (wanted a hatchback, but they didn't have them in stock at the time).

The only options I got are AC and the MP3 player(I love that...will never be without one again). 5 speed tranny

52000 miles so far of hard driving....only problem I've had is the digital clock on the dash quit being accurate...not worried enough to warrent me taking it back to get it fixed under warrenty though. Other than that, no problems.

well thats good to hear. :thumb: my wife wants an automatic. Supposedly the autos they use in Aveos are decent... hopefully thats the case.

The reviews I have read say that even 6' people fit in the thing... even though its a small car. What do you think about yours... plenty of room? I'm not manute bol or anything, but I am almost 6'1" and like leg room...

I'm 6'0", 215 lbs. I don't have any problems fitting...as long as I tilt the wheel to get in or out. THey are actually quit roomy inside. Everyone that gets in it is surprised by the room.

thanks for the hijack:waytogo: :p:

Yeah so If want to get better milage I recomend taking the top off to save weight, also ther rear seat, also swap the tailgate for one from a pickup. I don't think you can really ever get much better milage. I get about 8-9mpg with my K10.

Also like someone else said, if you get another car it would cost more to register/insure the thing than it would to just keep filling up the K5 and plus I know you would want to personalize the car with a system and other things that would waste more of your $$.

If you still have mt's, get some cheap rims and some road tires. That should give you 3-4 mpg... street tires make a difference!

Mileage aint everything...

Only Camaro I ever saw that got decent gas mileage was an 82 my co-worker had--it was his wifes car--it had a 2.5 four banger with a 5 speed manual tranny..we drove it to NY once and it got 25-28 mpg on the highway, cruising at 70 mph, with the A/C on!...other than that one,I doubt any other one with a V-6 or V8 to get much more than 15 mpg..the Jeep probably has the same motor, but they are geared lower, and are not areodynamic, and wont deliver that kind of mileage

I'd keep your truck and try to squeeze a few more MPG out of it--like they said, its expensive to register and insure another vehicle, and get it to pass inpection here...the amount you'd spend to get a car,and put it legally on the road will buy a LOT of gas!..

another thought...

With all the flooding you've had up your way,I'd rather be driving a lifted K5,than bobbing like a cork in a camaro or an Aveo or something, floating down the Merrimac river...:yikes: ...consider the price of gas as "life insurance"!!!..:wink1:

u only drive 30-40miles a week... thats absolutly nothing, def. just drive ur k5 and enjoy it. Think about it, trying to get new tires.. say 300bucks min.. thats a few gas tanks, so basically a month and half right there of gas.

well as of now i only use about a 1/2 tank a week....i drive around 150 miles every week, and thats when i can use someone elses car when i "really" need to, i can see the 31s helping alot, in MPG and wear wise...i have a lead on a set of 31s cheap from a member here, so i can keep my 33s, sell them, or trade them for a set of 33 ATS, i dont see it costing me anywheres near 300 for these tires, which will pay for itself in amount of gas saved, i will be driving the blazer a little more than usual, and i DEFINITELY am not getting rid of it

get a s10 xtreme.. my brother got one with the 2.2 or 2.3(i forget which ones the trucks get) and its stick. hes getting 25-30 mpg and truck looks badass. it beats driving his s10 blazer that gets 13mpg

another thing tho... i fill up 1/2 tank every week too and its only about 50-60 bucks, sure beats the extra 500$ or so youll spend on a dd

cool, thats what I had heard too... but I haven't sat in one yet. I'm more like 6'-1/2" and 190, so all should be good. :thumb:

You know what other compact car is surpisingly roomy, (don't be hatin') the honda element. I know a guy who stuffed 9 people in it and drove for about an hour to get home. They should have had 1 more designated driver.

I used to have a 91 z28 camaro, it had a 305 tpi. That car was pretty cool, wasnt terribly fast but it did some good burnouts. Nevertheless, I was pleased with my mileage, I was getting 19-22 mpg on the freeway. City netted a little less mileage, but could range up to alot worse, depending upon your desire to get sideways.:D One can usually pick one up for pretty cheap. Those cars handle good too, but unfortunately the quality on those cars suck and everything rattles. If you do buy one try to find one that has been taken care of and has lower miles.

are the 14.5 wide tires really killing my front end? they are aired at 20psi, which is what it says on the tire, would it be worth trying to get the hold of a nice set of 33x12.5s instead? or run 31x10.5 swampers that i can get pretty cheap, and then when i go wheelin put the 33s on?

i really like the element. Supposedly Honda tried like crazy with lots of marketing etc to get 18-25 year olds to dig the car... but it turned out that 35-40 year old men were their biggest customers. In its own way, its kind of "manly". lol! At any rate, I'd rather have an Element to get groceries or go camping than an SUV. Plenty of room for the cooler/tent etc and way better mileage so I could go to more distant camping sites for the same amount of $$$...

20 psi, that might be your problem. I run my tires at 35-40psi. At a low psi you tend to push the rubber on your tires rather than letting them roll along the pavement. But if your tires say not to go more than 20 psi, then don't go any more than 20psi.

I say you should get some 33x12.5 BFG All Terrains. All Terrains wear like iron and off great all around traction. I have 35x12.5 BFG All Terrains and I love them because they give off no road noise.

i`ll have to recheck what it says, any one else want to chime in?
