Ok heres the deal, I had a new crate 350 goodwrench along with a new Edelbrock 1406 electric choke carb installed on my 85 K10 about a month ago. The truck has ran great for the most part(seemed just a tiny bit rich) until the other day. I started it up cold and immediatly noticed a change in the sound. Warmed it up and got it off high idle and woah it ran rough. Shook the whole cab and sounded horrible, but as soon as you got above idle speed it seemed to run fine like it had been? Whenever you come to a stop and idle it ran like crap, shaking and just sounded wierd and you could also smell raw gas around it and the exhaust. Its only got 390 miles on the new engine/carb combo. I took it to my mechanic who installed the engine and he definatly agreed that it was running to rich and that it kept trying to flood out. Today he called and said that it was running better after some adjustments but that it could possibly need the jets changed to a different size eventually. He also thinks that it possibly could be a defective carb. So I picked it up and it ran "ALMOST" like it did when brand new, just sounded a bit different but no more shaking or rough idling. Well it didnt last long. On my way home from work it started doing the same thing, rough idle, raw gas smell, it barely stays running at stoplights but anything above idle it seems to run fine? What the heck, this thing is almost brand new, it shouldnt be having these kind of problems. If it needed different jets, how come it didnt need them for the first 390 miles? Do you think this Edelbrock is just a bad one out of the bunch or what? What do yall think, I nedd your help. Thanks sorry for this long post.

Sounds like the primary needle is sticking open, causing the engine to flood with too much fuel,
check for dirt in between the needle & seat .
Or you have too much fuel pressure.
Both common problems with Edelbock carbs.
Are you using a fuel filter ???

I had a new 625 go bad right outta the box years ago. If I recall the float was wasted or hanging up and it just drown the thing with gas.

K30 yes I am using a fuel filter. If it was a fuel pressure problem why do you think it would take a month to show up? Like I said it ran fine for the first month, even though it was a tad rich, I just thought that it came a little rich from the factory. I'll check the fuel pressure, it has a brand new mechanical fuel pump on it, I bet its pumping out more than 6 psi. If thats the case than where do I go from there? Fuel pressure regulator?

I'd check for vacuum leaks first and then move on to fuel pressure and floats. BTW, Chevy engines occasionally blow intake manifold gaskets so keep that in mind as well.
