I stopped into my uncles today and he asked me how the truck was running. I said good, but Im gonna go to a friends and start maching a block for a rebuild later this summer. He told me not to bother with that... take his vette LT1 (370 hp) engine.

Gonna do all new gaskets and give it a good look over, its been sitting in the garage for a while. Not sure but I think Im gonna leave the solid cam/lifters in it for now.
So in a couple weeks hopefully I will be dropping that in.

You realize there are things on that motor not compatible with GEN 1 small block stuff?

Unless your talking about a Gen 1 LT1 option motor from like 70-73 era.

That engine has 11:1 pistons in it....not exactly pump friendly stuff especially in a truck.

The TBI isn't going to be real happy with that engine either. That being said, that is a gross horsepower number. You would be better off with a fresh LO5.

Oops. I though I clicked on the thread above this that was titled "87 K5". I am guessing you have a 1979 K5? Doesn't have to meet emissions standards?

Congrats on the free and working motor. Sounds like with a little work it will fit right in. :)

A 370hp LT-1 is a 70 only engine.

71 was 330hp.

Gen 1 was LT-1
Gen 2 was LT1...

Touche. I thought they lied about the rating despite the compression decrease after the emissions crunch.

And I never knew that about the dash in the naming. Doubt Im the only one thats never picked up on that.

That being said I wouldnt want an LT-1 in a truck anyway. Solid lifters, screamer motor for a vehicle that needs a torque oriented piece.

I know its not an ideal truck engine, but it is cheap (free) and if I dont use it, its just gonna sit in a garage collecting dust. Im gonna run it for a couple years or so and rebuild the engine thats in the truck now. Hopefully by then I will get my camaro back on the road and drop it into that.

Its goin into an 84 pickup that dosent get driven often maybe once a week or so just around town.

Yeah, I think the peak torque was about 5200rpm:haha:

If you change the cam to a mild hydraulic, and drop the timing to about 8* and limit it to 34 total, run premium, you could probably get by...
