New engine

Wires hitting a heat source??
Nope... all pulled away.

I think it's the paint on manifolds. the old plug wires didn't have a good connection on the spark plugs or distributor. Maybe that has something to do with it?

But I looked all over the back of the block while it was running and I didn't see any oil. Doesn't mean it's not possible but I didn't see it.

Still begs the question, why now?

did you spill anything, where your hands grimy with anything and toughing the exhaust manifolds ? If the plugs wires were loose enough to keep cylinders from getting hot, it would have run like crap or not at all.

let it run if it doesn't clean up in 30 mins to an hour something is wrong.

The only other thing I can think of, was I adjusted the valves with the covers off. So oil had to have dripped back there.

This is probably what's going on, not sure why I didn't think of this earlier?
It's been a bit hectic at home the last couple days, this probably just slipped my mind as possible reason for the smoke.

I'll do as you suggest today.

Sometimes it takes a little while for all of the oil to burn off.

If you stop looking for trouble, you'll quit finding it. Just close the hood and pretend everything is good. :haha:

Nah, there is truth there. We've had a family thing happen and I was in the garage fixing what needed it but trying to keep my mind on something else. So the truck became that. There are things to be addressed but also, yes, just drive it..

The oil seems to have all burned off. Just drove it for about 30min.

Will give the intake another tightening. Still a spec of coolant but that could be residual from yesterday.

Really got on it. Tires squealing from the turn down the street. This engine has some get up and go. I do need room to brake though.

Temp stayed cooler than ever before. Maybe new plug wires are the reason? Maybe fresh oil, don't know.

Anyway, it's good for today, maybe not tomorrow but today was ok.

Some minor squeaking from what seems like flywheel, torque convertor area, but I didn't investigate that too deeply.

It can take awhile for the coolant to evaporate away. It is designed to have a high boiling point after all.

I've been fighting the urge to fuss over every little thing with my new engine. I just keep telling myself: I don't hear any bad noises, there's no fluid puddles on the ground, and oil pressure is good - quit worrying something is going to go wrong.

If you really want serious brakes, go hydroboost.
Retina detaching stopping power!

My brakes are soft and the new engine doesn't help. My wife commented about it before I put the engine in and I told her I was fixing that with new headers. She seemed dubious. Haha
