I've been working on a traction bar. However before I could do that I needed to re-route my exhaust. I've been running duals, but with the traction bar I needed to clear up the passenger side. So I purchased a Spintech muffler that has dual 2.25" inlets and single 3" outlet.

I found out about Spintech reading some threads on Pirate. I'm very glad I did. It's a small company and they actually fabricated the muffler I ordered, it wasn't just sitting on a shelf. First off, I love the way they are constructed. I read on Pirate the muffler can really take a beating and after seeing it first hand I understand. Here's their diagram of the muffler internals:

The spiral baffles are called "spin traps". They also serve the strengthen the muffler because in mine there are six of those essentially connecting the top and bottom of the muffler therefore making it very solid. But it is still quite light.

The price wasn't bad either; I paid $112 with shipping. About the same price as the Flowmaster 50 series SUV muffler I was looking at. Specifically I bought Spintech's Sportman Street series.

It sounds really good without being obnoxious on the road. It doesn't have the drone I've experienced with FM 40 series in the past. According to Spintech, their mufflers out flow FM by a lot.

Here are pics of the install:

I pieced the exhaust system together using pieces from Summit. A few mandrel U-bends and some straight pipe. My only complaint is that the straight pipes were shipped "naked" so the ends were covered in packing tape. I know UPS requires it, but it was a bitch to remove. I obviously missed a piece which you can see in the picture of the tailpipe below:

Here's a video I shot last night. You can hear in the drive-by it's actually pretty quite at cruise.

Here's a video of the interior sound levels.

I don't have anything covering the floors, just paint. You'll notice at a constant speed the tires are louder than the exhaust and I wouldn't consider the XL's the loudest tires I've driven.

On another note for anyone shopping mufflers, I found youtube to be very helpful. There are a lot of video clips of various mufflers and exhaust setups. Thats part of the reason I'm making these videos, so I can share the same with others. It's really pretty handy.

Looks and sounds very nice.. I take it from your comments in another thread the rumble at cruise isn't bad(compared to a Flowmaster). Are you running headers or manifolds? Is the t-case in the stock position?

The Flow in my Subby is nice until cruise at highway speeds.. I like to hear it accelerate but I hate the rumble during cruising at 2000-2200 RPM.

Compared to the tire noise, the exhaust is hardly noticeable. I had Super 40s at one point and I got tired of listening to it at highway speed and idling at a stoplight. I don't have an issue with the Spintech in that regard. It's a nice "crisp" sound without resonance.

I'm running Thorley Tri-Y headers.

The t-case is 1/2 clocked using a clocking ring from DIY4x.

Your transmission certainly keeps the RPMs pretty low on a hard acceleration. Mine used to let the engine get up to 4500 rpm before she'd shift

Yeah, I definitely wouldn't call 3500rpm hard acceleration. That's just my opinion though.

On subject though, that Spintech sounds frickin mean! Better sounding than any Flowmasters on youtube that I've seen.

MORE PEOPLE MAKE THREADS LIKE THIS! I'm in the market for mufflers. Straight pipes is obnoxious:D

Yeah, it would have been more dramatic if I could have manually shifted, but I was holding the camera in one hand. I didn't have the pedal all the way to the floor, but it was more agressive than I normally accelerate. :dunno: It's very rare that I ever get the motor over 3500, maybe climbing a mountain pass but that's about it.

Search for Spintech on youtube, there are quite a few. However most of them are the more aggressive Pro Street model. There are some pretty sweet sounding new version GTO's with Spintechs.

I couldn't think what else to call it other than hard acceleration. Maybe moderate acceralation? :dunno:

Sweet, looks like a lot of fitting of exaust joints and elbows. Looks good and sounds pretty sweet also.
Are you going to do a write up of your traction bar? :deal:

The passenger side took the most work, I think about 9 pieces. The driver side only took 2.

I'll probably at least post up some pics of the traction bar. I don't think I did anything too "groundbreaking" though. :dunno:

Scott, I'd be more than happy to show you hard acceleration if you want to make some more videos:D
Sounds good man;)

Et tu Brute? Man, you all are bustin' my nuts about the "hard acceleration"! :p: Maybe I'm just getting old... :haha:

We just need to do another drift bustin' snow run, then I'll do some "hard acceleration." :D

Just jealous that you're getting stuff done on your truck while mine has become a 6,000lb dust magnet :doah:

You better get crackin' to have it done for Montrose/21Rd. :deal:

Well it runs and drives as is sits right now, was just hoping to have some more gearing in it. Is anyone even planning on driving their rig there?

You mean besides me? Nick (B_to_C) will.
