Alright so today I put a new metal fuel line on my cj7 (tank to pump). I also rebuilt the carb and put on a new fuel filter. Upon putting everything backtogether the jeep would run on ether but would not get fuel up to the carb. After running on ether for a solid 30 seconds and then cranking for another couple minutes we pulled the fuel line off the carb and it was dry as a bone. You guys got any tricks to getting fuel back to the carb after a rebuild and new line? I really have to get this jeep running tomorrow because I'm trading it on monday. Appreciate the help in advance, even though it ain't a k5. CK5 has never let me down! Thanks guys.

Pull the line off of the in side of the pump, put a hose on it and blow to check for obstructions. I had a new line that had plastic stuck in it.:dunno:

Assuming you have a mechanical fuel pump on the engine-- while the incoming fuel line from the tank is off,try putting your finger over the fuel pump inlet fitting and crank it over--if you feel no suction, then its likely the pump diaphram died,or one of the valves in the pump is sticking open...it should have plenty of suction to draw fuel from the tank, though it might take 10-15 seconds of cranking to get the fuel to the carb..

Another possibilty is the needle valve in the carb is stuck closed, its possible the fuel pump cant prime itself if the output side of the pump is blocked off,it gets air locked...this is a long shot, but I've seen it happen before..

I have seen rubber fuel lines that are old look perfect on the outside, but are mushy and collapsed on the inside too--ethanol does that to old hoses that were not rated for ethanol blends..

No, not even to the pump. And the pump was working fine and it was running before yesterday.

Oh, no I thought you had a filter on the frame rail, which you really should to help keep some crap from getting to the carb's filter.
Other than that, I'll echo the above options.

I've had to unhook the line from the carb and crank until fuel comes out and then hook it back up before.

I think I'm gonna try this. And k85 octane I am talking about the online fuel filter up by the carb. Not the filter in the carb.

Gas tank empty ?...

Don't laugh!--my friend had 3 cars towed in last week and the only "problem" with all 3 is they ran out of gas--and the gauge said they still had some left..

Well check it out. Took 150 psi to blow this shit out. It's running now but still idling rough and backfiring through the carb because of the rough idle. Off to get some seafoam.
