My only concern is will it fit under our cabs correctly?

nah they are using the factory controller, notice in the swap they also used an ls2 motor so that the newer computer will communicate with the transmission controller. If that were the case, I would have bought a 6l90e for my cucv. And I also believe when they do come out with a stand alone controller, it will be more than a few hundred dollars. Hell the compushift controller I got this past year for my 4l80e was $1500 by itself with the options I ordered with it.
