I've wanted something to take to the dunes and desert for a while and finally pulled the trigger. Drove up to the bay area yesterday and scooped this one up.
It's what is left of a 660 rhino but is basically a little tube buggy at this point. It has a slew of work done to it but what matters is it moves pretty well with the loud pedal and the suspension soaks up bumps like nobody's business.
Taking it out next weekend with chevysmithz71 to give it a good break in beating out at Pismo. :D

All of the sides and rear white panels are aluminum. There's some cool sheet metal work on it too. Here's behind the seats.

This needs a little more tube a little more power and I need to build a rack for my truck so I don't have to trailer and someday get this thing all the way out to your dune weekend one year. :)

Shotty :D

Looks fun, Just remember NO gas cans in the back. They shake and spill on exaust then go poof.

Good point but I don't think I need one anyways. I ran it hard in Pismo Sunday afternoon and at night for a couple hours then took it out Monday with a couple different people and I never had to top off. Burned less than 10 gallons the whole time. That'll be nice compared to the thirsty trucks I'm used to. :D

I'll post some pics/movies in here later tonight.

So Pismo...

Ryan (chevysmithz71) and I decided to run over after church and try out the rhino. We played all night then camped on the beach and played Monday before coming home.

Typical awesome Pismo...

We ate yummy food with sand all up in everything. :D

My cousin and her husband were at the beach nearby all weekend for their anniversary so they came down and we gave them some rides.

We got some air under the tires to see how it felt...

We played in some bowls and Ryan caught a guy on camera crashing his quad right in front of me... He was ok, no worries. :)

But it's Ryan and I on a typical adventure and something had to go wrong. Well a quick, "hey lets just turn the empty trailer around and pull it on the hard sand down by the water so it's easier to load later".... turned into a GRENADED front drive shaft on my Dodge. The CV blew into multiple pieces.
Ryan picked out the snap rings and we were able to hammer the u-joint caps out and get the female yoke off the front axle (left the flange bolted on, screw dodge and their torx headed bolts nobody carries the tools to take off!) and then left the broken part of the CV on the t-case so we could at least drive around/home in 2wd.

Then some super nice guys came and helped us out. A guy in a big mega cab cummins yanked hard for a while but was getting stuck himself. He went to reposition and his quad fell out over the side of his bed. Another nice guy saw what was going on and came over with his crew cab long bed duramax and pulled me out backwards (without my trailer) then he went back and hooked up to my trailer and pulled it out to me on the hard pack. Always thankful for people who go above and beyond for a stranger.

Here's the only footage we got, as you can imagine we were in recovery mode until this was handled and not worrying too much about pictures.

The rig looks fun. But it looks like the "go fast" aspect of the rig needs some help

Agreed. It's faster than your typical leaf sprung truck because it soaks up everything you throw at it but needs some more HP. There's lots of stuff I can do... just give it time. :D
