Well i just joined ive been over on zukikrawlers for a while becuase ive been without a chevy for a 2 years:confused: but thats a thing of the past now. i just got a 1987 cc 4x4 DRW with a 6.2/th400. ive been looking for a crew for a year waiting to find one in good shape. i didnt want a DRW but i couldnt pass her up. My plans are convert to SRW using stock H1 wheels and tires, as small as a lift as i can get away with to clear the 37's. slap a turbo and a flatbed on her and be done which is a lie but it makes my wife feel better. any input on this will be great.

now the the questions. ive never had a 1ton so the D60 and 14ff are new to me. Im trying to figure out the lift and dont know how much i need. the 1ton seems to sit higher stock than any other chevy ive had. and i dont know if the H1 wheels are the best option to convert. opinions on this would be great

just got my first 1 ton. its a 87 cc/drw with a 6.2. I want to lift it to fit H1 wheels and the stock H1 37's. Im going to use the H1 wheels to make it SRW. but i have some ?s

1. if i do a 6in lift do i have to get my drive shafts extended like on most other trucks?

2. can i run the 37's with a 4in with out trimming? i know this is a shot in the dark but it seems to me that the truck sits high stock.

3. do i need any special parts for the lift because of the D60? I am thinking rough country decuase of the good price.

4. what about a t-case drop? im told that i can move the stock spacers from inside the frame and stick them between the crossmember and the frame to achieve this. true?

5. Im not sure what gearing the cc dually has stock but will it have any issues with stock gearing and a lift. this will be my DD and tow rig. Ill be towing a 18ft flatbed with my samurai and quads on it.

6. the only 4x4 it will see is during elk season and it wont be anything that cant be done in 2wheel so im not worried about rubbing or anything like that.

thanks ahead of time

Welcome. Glad to have you here. There will be lots of great people here to help you. I can't, but there will be others who will. Sounds like a good plan to me! Good luck.

#1- 6"? Probably. 4"? Probably not.

#2- Probably not. If you do it will be minor, and most likely at the bottom rear of the front openings.

#3- Front springs are the same between 1/2, 3/4 and 1 ton. 3/4 and 1 ton rear springs are different. 1/2 ton= 52" springs, 3/4 and 1 ton= 56" springs. Steering correction for the D60 is different, you'll need a dropped drag link and/or a steering block for that. (Or cross-over steering, if you want to learn about that, check out ORD's website) U-bolts are different. The two drivers side are the same, the passenger side uses 1 big ass u-bolt around the housing and studs/nuts or bolts threaded into the top of the housing.

#4- This varies truck to truck, but with the long ass wheelbase and two piece shaft on the crew cabs, probably not necessary to lower the t-case.

#5- With a 6.2, my bet would be 3.73's max for axle ratio. Possibly 3.42's. If you're gonna keep the diesel and the TH400, and run 37's, I wouldn't go any lower than 4.56.

Oh yeah, I was born in Auburn, California and lived most of my lIfe in Grass Valley/Nevada City. :D

i have 1ton 4x4 with 4" hd springs and a lighter weigth sbc 350. also 2" body lift on the truck. 37x12.50x16.5 on 9.75 wide rims tires are h1 hummer goodyears. thay clear o.k. but when offroad flexing i do need to do light trim on the front fenders.

few flex pics. ya fender shows 1/2 ton body thats swaped on to 1ton frame.

dana 60 front will be fine for norman lift kit parts. just need a drop pitman arm for the steering box. NOT a raised steering arm for 1/2-3/4 ton axles. and skip the lift block for the steering correction.

rough country is cheep and good but vary stiff ride . look at tuff country or bds for a lot better ride.

also some front drive shaft work might be needed for the 6" lift . have to install and check it. rear prob just drop the center carrier bearing down a little for the 2 section drive shaft.

leave the tcase were it is dont drop it.

and go read around here and call them for a package deal price on what ya need . www.offroaddesign.com

and first 25 bucks to spend on the truck is membership dues here. will not regret it. tons of h1 rim fittment pics on here and lifted truck info.
