New guy Mike, checking in (camper questions)

Any pics or details?

Not a bad looking rig. I'm not sure but I think this one is what I had seen previously that had the Blazer top section attached to the camper. I have a photo of what was probably after the truck and camper were painted and it was much darker and more shiny.

Interesting, I bet that is the truck, thanks. He said the paint has not weathered well and used to look a lot nicer. When you say that the blazer top section was connected to the camper, is this not normal? Anything in particular that should concern me?

Talked to the NM DMV this morning. They basically said they cant give out any info except to the person whose name is on the title. I can call the police to check if the vehicle has been reported lost or stolen or anything like that but the info on the title matches the sellers info, its just his old address. I don't have any reason to believe its shady at this point. He sent me pictures of the vin on the dash, inside the glovebox and on the title and it all matches. I think my girl and I are going to road trip to San Fran so I can confirm everything in person and do the exchange. Then I'll have it shipped back to AZ.

The only thing that is still curious to me is, it has California plates on it in the pictures but he still has an NM title. Im not sure how he'd get California plates without transferring the title to CA.

Sounds like he's legit. Might have tossed some CA plates from something else to keep the locals off of him.

All in all, both units look solid. Little whammy on the fender and grille, but fixable. What I find is unique is the lack of any window on the passenger side of the camper. Makes me believe that it had been removed and new siding installed when the camper was refurbished. Of all the Blazer campers I've found on the web it's the only one I've seen with no window.

I was thinking the plate might have just been slapped on while it was parked. He said he did a nearly full resto including new exterior skin, insulation and interior panels so that probably explains the missing window. Ill be doing a complete strip down to the frame and rebuild anyway so Im only truly concerned about the bones of the camper and it looks quite straight/true.

Must have missed this post last night. But in your case the way this is on that truck is a good thing. From FWC, these campers did not have any part of the factory fiberglass top attached. All they did to seal the camper to the cab was using camper tape on the vertical edge of the back of the cab and butting the camper up to it. Attachment of the camper to the truck was solely on the bedrails. Nothing into the cab .

That arrangement causes three issues. One the sealing to the cab is weak. Letting moisture past the camper tape and adding to rotting out the floor in a known area on the blazers. Two, the lack of the factory top leaves a one inch wide channel where the top seals normally go and now creates a nice open channel for water to funnel down and go to a little hole where the cab meets the bedrail. Third, probably the biggest issue to me is the lack of attachment to the cab from the camper. There is a LOT of wind pressure hitting the front wall of the camper. Plus the overhead section can generate lift. I've experienced that bringing mine home. 65 mph the gap opened up between the camper and the cab. Spooky and don't really aid in the sealing Dept either.

It's essential to put that section of the Blazer top on the camper to seal it up right and secure it to the truck. Yours is done. What I can't see since there are no inside shots of the camper is if they did attach the camper to the cab. You would see the bolts on the front wall of the camper. I don't think anyone would hold through the trouble of grafting on the chunk of Blazer top and not put the holes through to use the bolts to attach it.

!Update time!

Ive been in regular contact with the owner. We have a tentative agreement. Im scheduled to travel to San Francisco Friday April 19th and see the truck Saturday, already booked a hotel room in Nob Hill for Friday night. I'll be road tripping with my girlfriend and assuming all goes well I have already lined up a few auto transport quotes to have the Blazer shipped to AZ. Starting to get really excited!!!

Excellent news!

So we know part of your plans to gut the camper and de-skin it to the aluminum frame. What's the rest? Going to use the same siding you did on the other one? What are your ideas for the interior? What about the Blazer itself?

I'm just curious to see how you take this one on since you are going way further than I did with mine. Plus there will be a time I would like to pull the aluminum siding and go with a more modern smooth setup like you used on the last one you finished. I'll be paying close attention to that work for sure.

Well...the short answer is, my better half does high end residential and yacht interior design. We have plans to go a little overboard (pun kind of intended) with this one. This Blazer might not even stick around, I might simply use it to get the camper, depends on its condition. Ultimately it will be fully custom inside the camper and the truck will get an LS or big block swap with tons and at least 37s. Plan is to wheel it hard and drive it all over the country.

Looking forward to what a couple of pros could do to one of these little campers. Sounds like a great plan.

Well, digging this one up from the dead...I FOUND ONE!!! I did not buy the blue one in San Fransisco, though it was a fun road trip to go look at it ha. I waited an entire year and this past week a seemingly pristine Blazer+Four Wheel Camper popped up on Craigslist in Tucson. I knew I had to have it immediately. Drove down and drove it home on Thursday! Ill probably start a new thread for this but man, its a good one. The timing was right and I jumped. Really got lucky with this one. Took it for a shake down this weekend with my friend who happens to be a very talented photographer, here is a sneak peak.

Great score. The canvas looks to be in good condition. Just looking at it from the outside it wasn't equipped with a fridge but probably has an icebox up front.

Glad you finally found one!

The canvas is in incredibly good shape. No rips or tears, even the clear plastic windows didnt shrink! One corner has some very mild moldy spots but otherwise it looks as if the vehicle was kept indoors. It has a furnace, two burner stove, water tank (with hand pump not electric) and an icebox. Part of the plan Ive started compiling is to find a fridge that fits in place of the icebox and somehow fake the icebox door onto the front of the fridge. I want to keep the camper as original looking as possible. I am going to build a side dinette setup to replace the couch but Im going to remove and keep all the original stuff so it can go back to stock in the future. The bed has the factory extension which is nice but the mattress is like a rock so Ill probably make another one and preserve the original.

Look at truckfridge as they have modern 12v compressor fridges that could work in that space and not require the same amount of venting that a typical RV 3-way fridge would need. They need some venting but I bet you could do that to the front of the cabinet rather than going through the outer skin. Not many would see the vent behind the seat.

Is there trim strip pc. missing? ,they cover the screws so the water don't get in
