Just picked up a 90 V2500 a couple of weeks ago. I parted with my 78 k20 truck back in June. I could not do without a mountain vehicle I guess. I've wanted a nice Suburban for awhile, but was unable to find one that I felt was the best for my $$.

I found this website 5 years ago when I had an 84 K5, it too found a new home 4 years ago.

Anyway the one I got was a great deal. Not abused, 122k miles, front and rear air, manual hubs awesome condition. Body bushings still "rubbery". The paint is marginal. The clear is peeling.

Thanks to this website I was able to search and troubleshoot my non working speedometer. Changed the whole cluster.

So far I had to get the radiator recored. The AC only needed 2 lbs. of R12 and it works great. Belts, hoses, fluids and filters.

Needs tires still. But funds are low after putting $700 into it. Pics to follow.

Great website!!!!!!!!!!!!

Welcome/Welcome back. Post up a pic when you have one. I need my burb pic fix for the day.

What are your plans for the burb? Lift? No lift? Tires?

Leaning towards Cooper Discoverer S/T's 235/85 16. Stock tire size. Going to hold off on lifting. I may regret the tread design if we go on a major road trip next summer. We went to Alaska in July for our honeymoon. Would like to take the kids up there (11 and 7). We are contemplating even moving up there in a couple years. The Suburban would be an excellent fit.

Well, I use photobucket.com because it's free. I upload to photobucket from my computer. Once my pics are in photobucket, I copy the image code and paste into my ck5 message. I've always done it this way but I think the moderators here prefer that you host your pictures here so that the pics stay on this site.

You should be able to upload pics in the 'User CP" section at the top left of this page. There is also a test section to practice uploading pics.

Thanks! I believe the problem is the pics are too big. They need to be resized. I don't know how to do that. I'll try and figure it out though.

Nice. There's a few Alaskans here that post frequently. Since I'm in Cali, I don't know all the tricks to setting up a truck for those temps. Lol... I don't even remember how much tire chains cost anymore.:D

The pics do wonders for the paint. It does not actually look that good in person. The clear coat is peeling pretty bad on the hood and roof.

The pics were at 8 a.m. I had wanted to be looking for Elk an hour before. But trailer plug wiring the day before caused me a delay. I made it to the top of the mtn. range at 9 and all the Elk were bedded down or back in the timber so I did not see any. I saw some great country. Two weeks from now I hope to shoot a big bull.

The gas mileage was terrible. Only 9 m.p.g. Granted I was turning almost 3000 rpm's at 70 mph. I was hoping for 12 mpg. Well I've established a "baseline" before the tuneup.

A set of 40" tires would bring the RPM down quite a bit for ya.:D

3000....ouch. Thats EXACTLY why i got a 91 with the 4l80e overdrive trans, i spin 2000rpm at 70mph, and on stock tires, got 16-17mpg on flat highway :D

Nice looking truck though.

Thanks. I wish I had found a 91 with the 4l80 in this nice of condition. Dealing with a rough/low idle as well. I removed the IAC and cleaned it. It seemed to help until the motor warmed up. One thing I noticed is the plug for the minimum idle screw is missing. Hopefully no previous owner has "adjusted" this. I've thought it may be a vacuum leak possibly. But short of repalacing all the vacuum lines I haven't found one that is suspect yet.

It's pretty common to get a vac leak at the throttle body base gasket (between TB and manifold), too. Cheap to buy and easy to change, even if you're not sure it's leaking.:D That usually causes a high idle, but if the truck is adjusting idle down, it may still cause the rough running.

Hey Brett if you need help on Alaska, I've lived up there for several years and know a couple people and local boards to get more info. Alaskan seem to like those old subs, and for good reason. Hit me up if you want to know more.

Thanks. I've got a lot of questions. I am a couple of years from being able to move. A job is the easy part. I'm an aircraft mechanic for fedex. I can transfer providing there is an opening. There usually is 1 or 2 a year. I like to research before I move.

I'm changing the tbi gasket today. Also plug, wires, etc.

Changed plugs, wires, cap, rotor, ignition module, iac. But didn't get to the tbi gasket. Runs alot better. Still has a "hunt" for idle. I didn't have time to let it completely warm up. It runs so much better. Not rough idle, just a bit of a hunt. The idle is a little higher now. More normal. 800 or so rpms in park and 600 or so in gear.

They were the original wires. What a pain to try replicate the routing. Broke most of the wire clips and resorted to tie wraps.
