View attachment 167094I have an 87 k5 and I know some were wondering about the LMC headliner. Well, I just put one up and so far it's great. Not bad sound for such small speakers. I ordered some fosgates to replace them but the stock ones aren't bad for 10 watts. I painted all of the pillar pieces and cleaned up the roof. The headliner comes with foam to baffle the speakers and head unit. I have a pioneer Bluetooth receiver (no cd) so it's pretty light. No worries about sagging due to weight. Although the headliner itself is pretty sturdy. I thought the gloss finish was going to be a turnoff but I needed up liking it. I'm new to the forum but am loving the expertise of the members here.

i had that one in a truck before a loved it but it does need a good set of noise makers

Not a one, save cosmetic. I like the way it looks sitting there and didn't want to replace it with something shiny with flashing lights and digital read outs. Lol ( besides I still have a couple of cassettes that I play once in a while ) :D I am now contemplating a seat swap. 03-06 Yukon seats (which seem to be hard to find in black) or some Town and country captain chairs. ( which I see a lot of online ) or maybe I'll just throw on some coverking seat covers.

I hate to ask for more pictures, but I hadn't seen this before, let alone an installed one. I'd like to see what it looks like from the back seat. I'm tall enough that anything lower than the factory headliner in front of the driver might be annoying.

LMC's page (the one I can find, http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/csb/full.aspx?Page=97) is a bit lacking in actual details/pics...looks like maybe a compartment over the drivers visor? Does it mount using factory holes and what not? It appears to be a functional piece that replaces the horrid factory headliner.

Been thinking about a backup camera for a variety of reasons, would be cool if one could be found with the right dimensions to mount in place of the radio in that headliner.

They make radio-sized monitors, so I don't think that will be an issue, but if going that route, you could use a larger display, hey are cheaper. Might be a bit difficult to mount up there so the opening didn't look odd, but I think it could be done.

I assume since a radio is mounted up there, the headliner must be fairly rigid, but hence my question about how the liner mounts.

Here you go. There is a space above the visor you could maybe cut out and put one. You would obviously need to have some sort of (styrofoam maybe?) inside the headliner for support. When i purchased the headliner i thought that space was a shelf? I was surprised to see that it wasnt. As far as visibility and height, im around 6ft and i didnt notice any change at all. ( although my original headliner sagged a bit so maybe thats why it feels taller lol ) anyhow hope this helps your decision making a bit.

Appreciate it! Any idea why that bulge is there? It looks like it forces the drivers visor down for some reason. I know the roof is "flat" there, so they aren't covering something up.

I saw the other shelf product they sold had the picture from another angle, and that allows you to see that the "shelf" basically fills in the contour of the roof line, so it's no lower than the top edge of the windshield. Only thing this seems to affect is the thickness of the visor.

It's plenty rigid as-is though, and mounting is secure? How does the radio attach? Nothing to the roof sheetmetal?

The headliner is pretty rigid but it does flex a little I guess to ensure a good fit. The radio opening has to be cut out. There are foam baffles supplied with the headliner that sandwiches the radio to stop vibration and suport it. The plastic is rigid enough that as long as the opening is cut properly the radio won't budge at all. It is pre cut for the visors opening and that is where you attach it first. The rest of holes have to be drilled after its lined up. There are also foam baffles for the back of the speakers. There is nothing attached to the actual sheet metal. I have no idea why that bulge is there. The only thing I can surmise is that it could be cut out as some type of shelf or maybe they were going to provide some type of product ( shelf/storage ) that could fit there in the future? hope this helps. I have heard that a few people have had problem with the fit but I think that was because they didn't have the proper headliner for the year k5 they owned and that was probably due to the lack of proper description from the vendor. I've seen a few of these headliners on different websites and some I had no idea if I was potentially purchasing the right one.

Inwould say yes. For two reasons. Very simple to keep clean and plenty rigid that you wont ever have to replace it.

I don't think that's pricey at all, honestly. Drawing up the design, having someone tool up to mold it, probably shipped across the world, etc., with the improvements (if you care for that sort of thing) for additional speakers, a different radio or CB mount, and replacement of the factory headliner that is a real pain to deal with once they start to fall apart, in a shrinking market. All for not really having to cut the truck up at all.

Kind of hoping they either get rid of the drivers bulge or make it functional, really my only problem with it, as it sounds like if you lined it up right, you could probably mount to existing holes.?

I suppose it has lots of utility but 300$ is alot of dough. Is that what you paid for it?

I actually paid $ 213.00 bucks for it on sale from Auto Parts Warehouse. It does mount to exisiting holes although you have to drill the headliner AFTER lining it up with the pre-cut visor holes that the headliner comes with according to the year truck you have.

That sounds a little better. I'll have to save some pennies.
