New here. Just got this 1970 Blazer. I am hooked. Where is the best place to get the disc conversion brakes?

Welcome!

I'd grab the parts from a front axle (from the knuckles out) from any 70's to early 80's 1/2 ton truck and swap them over. Pretty sure the rest of it can be had at a parts store for a stock 71-72.

Thanks. Also, this blazer has a 3" body lift. Do you recommend reading that out and switching to a suspension lift?

Tires look like 35's? Body lifts kinda make the body look funny and not line up with the bumpers but a suspension lift will make it ride a bit rougher. Just depends on what you want to do with it.

I'd say just drive it for a bit and enjoy it. Then start with things that can be done in a couple weekends to make it safe and reliable. Brakes and steering are a good start.

And I'm sure whoever sold it to you said it was 99% rust free. That's a common misunderstanding which really means the rust that is hiding there is free with the purchase of the truck. :)

Yep. 35's came on it along with a set of 36" super swampers. I'll try my hand with the disc brake conversion and replace some bushings and a few door parts. I just want to drive it and lean on the way. Not looking for a show truck.

It also comes with a hard top that is stuck in the snow and ice but wondering what people think about a "Soft topper"?

Any thoughts?

soft toppers are great for 3/4 of the year. I wish I had one. I have a safari top (just the roof from my hardtop) it works great for most spring summer fall weather, but would be nice to have sides on it for the rainy days.

I'd leave the hardtop where it is. The softopper should be ok in snow, but I live in CA so not sure about how vinyl windows act in super cold weather. They might get brittle.

They do get a little brittle, but not enough to really be a problem. It's not like you are rolling them up in those temps. I've had a soft top in Utah for 10+ years. It doesn't seal tight against the wind but if the heater is in good shape it'll be fine so long as it isn't your daily driver.

Thanks for the info. I put quite a few miles on do it will not be a daily driver. Just looking mostly for something to keep stuff dry and the sun from cracking stuff up.

I'm jealous. I wish my body lines were that tight and my hood closed flush in the back. Ya seriously consider ditching the 300lb anchor formerly known as the hard top. O-and Welcome to the madness
