I swapped out my hydroboost and I went for a test drive and the front brakes are locking up, I drove less than a mile and when I got back the front brakes were smoking.

1984 k30 Dana 60, new calipers (last year) and new hydroboost, the brakes worked fine with the old hydroboost. Any ideas?

If you went less than a mile and they were hot enough to be smoking I’d say they are applied all the time….is it possible that the pushrod from the pedal is partially engaging the new hydroboost

Check that the new booster rod is not applying the brakes. probably not your issue since happens quickly but, the fluid level in the master. If it to high as warms it expand in the reservoir and apply the brakes.

Fluid level is good, I have to measure and make sure the brake pedal lever rod is the same length as my original unit.

I know when I start the 2001 with the hydro unit I feel it kick the brake pedal, they move when power steering pump applies pressure

Pulled the old push rod out and it's the same length but it sits at a different depth because of the washer location newer unit is top photo old original unit is second photo and you can see the difference in the last photo. I'll swap push rods and see if that helps.

So I have a small ammount of pedal travel in my brakes now before it engages, they are no longer locked up, I think changing the push rod was the correct thing to do. It was a pain in the butt to reassemble on my truck versus on a bench vice. I gotta put some power steering fluid back in the reservoir and see how it does.

So it drives better. Brakes still smell from when they locked up, I am getting back pressure out of the ps pump reservoir and it's puking fluid out the cap. I changed the cap from to a spare 5.3 I have. Could it be over filled or is it from the hydroboost. I'm also now getting a vibration at around 50. It feels like it's coming from a drum. What should I be looking for?

Not sure about the fluid puking, could over filled or an air bubble. if you feel the vibration in the seat it is the rear, if felt in pedal is the fronts.

Ok after thinking about my truck and hydroboost pushrod install I think the reservoir puked because I had air in the system and I didn't bleed it enough, now I need to figure out the vibration.

I was looking at the rockhound off road kit with e brakes but it does not come with bearing and seals, do I just use stock seals and bearings for my 14ff hub from a parts warehouse?

Yes but I would recommend the upgraded seals from a later 14b, much better design. PN 710568

That kit uses eldorado rear calipers, be aware that they will satisfy inspection requirements if you have them but they really don’t function all that well as a reliable parking brake.

We don't have inspections in Oregon, the parking pawl in my 4l80 is on vacation and I'm using my parking brake as park right now lol
