Has anyone seen the article in 4WOR about the new Interco "Birddog" wheel? It is apparently a wheel that doesn't have a mechanical beadlock but specific bead biting grooves that can hold down to 5 psi with no beadlock ring.

I did a search and the only thing I can find is this and a bunch of bickering on pirate that didn't really say anything worth reading, and I don't even have facebook to read this.

They don't have it on the interco site yet. Anyway, it doesn't look the best, but it wouldn't hold mud and it could be light and less maintence with no leaking. Anyone else find any info? What do you think?

I saw the article... I think that once it comes out and really hits the market time will tell. That's with anything though. I thought it was a cool design/concept. Who knows if it will really catch on though.

I think it will catch on if it works, which is what I want to see, I want to know how well it actually works in real wheelin situations. If what the article says is true, it may become pretty popular. It isn't the best looking wheel, but if it works then it may be worth it, its half the cost of a good aluminum beadlock and DOT legal. They need other centers for it.

If anyone gets a set we need a review!

if it does what they say, i think it'll explode. look at how many people still use the h1 and spend the time to recenter it even tho it uses crappy 16.5 tires.
imagine for a dual purpose getting a wheel you use every day, balances easily, can fit popular/modern tire sizes. in theory its a great plan. i guess we'll see how it works out.

Ugly. They need to make them look like a stock steel wheel, and accept hub caps.

About time somebody produced a rim like this. I've been welding a ring to the inside of rims right there to accomplish that very thing. Never done the outer one just the inner.

It works.

duh..this isnt new...ive done this to demo derby rims for yrs....seem to me the lack of this inside lip on 16.5'' wheels is what gave them a bad rep...new stuff but old idea

This being Interco: they need to make them round.

I'd be afraid I'd order a 15x10 8 on 6.5 wheel with 4.5" bs and I would recieve a 13.25x8 with a 8x6.15 bolt pattern and have 2.5" of backspace.

seems like it would work in low speed conditions, but the best part about a beadlock is it holds the tire in place no mater what. So if you are in the middle of climbing a rock, running 5psi, and it requires more than a bump..... seems the tire will still want to spin on the rim and slip off.

Does look interesting though. Might have to try welding a ring on my newly acquired 16.5 rims.

Some OEM 16.5" wheels have the safety bead on the inside. I have no idea why aftermarket 16.5" wheels don't.

Its an idea whos time has come, actually its way late.

There are tons of guys who don't do hard enough wheeling to justify beadlocks. Those guys would like a bit more security though.

I agree with the spinning it certainly won't replace beadlocks but I would run em on a street brawler that saw occasionally off road use
