New Interco off road wheel

Info on interco's site now

Saw this while trying to find out if there was any way to find another 36X14.5 radial tsl (looks like bad news for me on that front since i have three with 95% tread and one that is damaged).

Anyway here is the link http://www.intercotire.com/BIRDDOG.php

Anyone seen or heard price or when they will be available or found a place to buy them?

I don't know, last I heard you could preorder them through interco. I see they don't even offer a 17x9 in an 8 lug yet.

I think that the bead retention feature is not the same old beadlip we are used to, I think the differences aren't huge, but I think there may be small differences with the dual lip that make a large difference in retention. If they could run 5 psi reliably that is a significant improvement. Now if we could only prove if it is true or not.

You would think they would offer it in a 16.5, seeing as that is the rim with the most trouble keeping a tire on . . . . .

16.5's are a dying bread. If it wasn't for the HMMWV's I bet we would have seen the last of them years ago.

You can say they are a dying breed all you want. They still exist, and the reason they are dying is because of no bead retention.

Martin

Yeah, but every year the number of tire makers that make tires for them diminishes. When was the last time a non-offroading tire maker made a new model of tire that included 16.5" tires?

Eventually the HMMWV's will go away. So will their wheels. It's just going to be attrition until you can only get surplus stuff and offroad tires and all the while 17's and bigger will be taking their place.

They are constantly testing new vehicles that can take over for the hummvee. Most new vehicle are coming out with 17 inch rims standard now. 16.5 is old tech and they are going to go away eventually I believe as well. It suçks because I too am running 16.5 rims tires. I think some tire companies will still make tires for awhile. But that's a few years off.

Another option bead lock

I'm still a believer in 16.5's.
Using "inner air bead locks" now on the Sub with 42's
They are about $100 per wheel and you can easily run down to 5/6 lbs.
Just an extra valve stem in the wheels of your choice.
Sort of a budget version of the old Staun internal bead locks .

May be worth a look??:dunno:

Inner bead locks

Thanks. How long have you been running those?

Martin

Just this year....installed after our Moab trip in May.
No issues so far.
Still need to install in the wife's steel rims.
I can post how it goes if you are considering them..?
I'll advise if I have a problem anyway.

Yeah, I am interested. $100 a wheel isn't bad really. Not when you have built a set of beadlocks and seen what that comes to a wheel.

It says on the link they are $600 for a set, is the street price cheaper than that?

Also, i like this video from the link site...

Wow!
I may have been given a better price because I bought 10 to do both trucks and the spares.
The price may have increased due to higher demand too.
I know the Staun units have had a bunch of issues with production, price etc.

I Don't want to sidetrack the original thread......

Just say the word if it's too off topic...

At the same time I installed the internal beadlocks, I also installed some Rapid Air Down Vales.
These are amazingly simple, fast and tough!!

I don't remember the price I paid with shipping but it was less than I expected.

Well, prices range from $532 - $772, so I guess it depends. 16.5s are $536 plus tax and shipping I assume. $552 for 17s.

I sent him an email to see if they could make them for a narrower wheel.
