New life for an old GI, 1984 Chevy M1028

I brought my axle shafts and bearing hubs to my friends shop to use his press. New bearing races and u-joints are now installed. The plan is to finish up assembly and crossover steering this weekend so I can free up a shop bay for large trucks on Monday.

Working to get this front axle back together. The passenger side is going well but I'm running into issues on the driver side. The inner surface on the new bearings isn't very smooth and hangs up before going into position on the spindle. I destroyed one axle seal in the process of trying to get it together.

Just read through all of this, Im curious does u haul give you any flack? I tried to rent a trailer to go pick up my K20 and they wouldn't rent me one because my tow rig is a 91 and my truck "wont fit on our trailer". They said my tow rig was "too old to safely tow". Id rather have a safe old rig than some of the stuff I see pulling trailers....just curious?

After a month of distractions, some success tonight. I fought with the driver side hub for an hour before I found the trick. Once I put the outer bearing in the hub, it held the inner bearing in alignment where it slid on with the first try. Both sides are now set and torqued to spec. Driver side lockout went on without issue but I'm fighting the passenger side snap ring on the axle shaft.

Those trailers we my inspiration for the bed on the crew cab.

I ended up redoing the crossover steering with ORD parts. I just was not happy with the fit and finish of the first kit I bought. Only waiting for the pitman arm now. For now, it is sitting on all wheels again. I'm going to work on checking Driveshaft u-joint angles next. If everything is good, I can torque the u-bolts.

It was sold on Ebay as a NW Fab kit but it was just a cheap copy. It would work for a wheeler, but I didn't like the quality for a street truck.

I eventually want to convert from cross over to highsteer sucks that kit was bad I liked how it looked.

Since we are talking about diesel fuel systems, how does that drain valve thing on the frame back by the fuel tank work on a diesel k5?
Where is this fitting located? Wondering if my civilian 6.2 has one...
