New meats and spare front fenders....[Installed]

Looks good. Do you think it could have been done in place on the vehicle, with the inner removed?
 
I think it could be done, the outside sheet metal work would be easy to get to and manipulate, however the inside structure would be a pain to weld on and reinforce.

I didnt want to start chopping into my truck or pull the whole front clip apart just to modify the fenders because its my daily driver, this is why I just got another set form a salvage yard. They are easy to work on without them being attached to the truck, every weld can be done in a flat position and so forth with body work and painting. Also you don't have to worry about damaging windows and paint with sparks and spatter.
 
Another small update, got around to working on my fenders again.

Patching up the front trim job with 16ga sheet metal...

All that's left is some more patchwork on the passenger's side, and some bending and tweaking here and there, hopefully I can get around to painting them soon :D
 
Nice work there. I like how you filled it back in. Should be as strong or stronger than stock with the fill panels.

I changed my inner lip over to 1/8 plate steel.. the lower "pad" is also 1/8..

Yeah nice work. Really looks a lot better than the typical cut fenders. I still can't believe nobody has ever tooled up aftermarket reproduction fenders with larger wheel openings.

What's the plan as far as getting the inner to mate up? and it looks like some mods are needed on the floorpan where the inner mates up?

Thanks! Actually, your fender sectioning job is what inspired me a while back to do this in the first place, I like how yours tie into your rock sliders, those shouldn't go anywhere.

However I took the quick and dirty rout because I have little experience in metal forming with dollies and hammers. :D

your's look about the width as mine in back.. I made mine so I could basically just flatten out the inner well to the firewall and still bolt it up... any more off the fender, and that would have become an issue..
 
Did you fill the rolled edge on the bottom rear?

Looks good, not just hacked out.

Everything is filled up, I had to make quite a few relief cuts in order to stretch that lower rolled edge, then use a piece of sheet metal on the inside of the lip as a filler plate, ill have some more pics tomorrow on how I did that, this time without the lame camera flash that makes everything look like a dungeon :doah:

I know right? You would think that aftermarket manufacturers would make some widened out fiberglass ones or even stamped out steel ones, they do the same with Jeeps, why not the overly abundant square body Chevy?

As far as a plan (reminds me of a particular Harrison Ford quote) "i don't know, I just make it up as I go".

Hopefully I won't have to even touch the firewall/floor pan area, I may be able to get away with relief cutting the inner fender at the apex of the radius that's closest to the cab, and then pull it back to screw into the plate I welded in at the lower rear portion of the fender lip. If worse comes to worse I may just chop off the back half of the inner fender and just run with it, or fab up a splash guard :dunno:

I'm not too worried about the inner fender, but as you described, that's my plan.
 
I didn't even have to relief cut mine, just smashed/bent it flat iirc...
 
the only issue you may run across is the holes/clips in the wells more than likely will be off from the where the fender holes are...

that was an easy one in my case, the last thing I did was clamp the well back to my new lip, drill the holes, than weld nuts on the back...

in your case, it'll probably just be as simple as drilling some new holes in the well...

You can get them in fiberglass, but typically done a lot wider than stock - they are designed for a pre-runner style build.

This is pretty much how I stretched the lower flared out portion of the fender lip, lots of relief cuts, and then filling up the gaps with a patch panel welded behind it.
