New Member - Need some K5 advice

Hi guys, I am new to this site, I currently have 3 square body trucks already; 84 K10, 85 K5 and an 86 K30. I have recently stumbled across a very nice, clean 88 GMC Jimmy for sale. Its got about 95k miles on it, original 350 and mostly original everything else on it. Two tone black and silver. Very very clean, I have been talking to the owner and while I am a few hours away all of the pics have looked great. I did look over the buyer checklist and have been asking for more pics since I cant easily travel this far just to go look at the truck. My question I guess is more about value more than anything, in good shape, what would a fair price for this Jimmy be? Here is what I know: 95k "original" miles also validated by a carfax, working ac, no rust on the body or tailgate, stock drivetrain (rebuilt tranny about 20k ago with receipts), new 33" tires, 2" lift. I have been looking for a truck this clean for a long while and have been unsuccessful; most are very rusty from the Northeast where I live or have been poorly modified and I wouldn't even feel safe driving them. I like the fact that this one is mostly stock but with a small lift can run 33s.

Very nice looking rig from the pic. But I would try and get some more pics. Underneath, the rocker boxes, tailpan, floor by the rockers etc.

for probably 5k you could buy and have one shipped to you in the same condition from out west, so i would wanna spend less than that. just a thought.

That's about what he is asking for this anyway. I been looking for a long time now and it seems like the blazers are the hardest to find of all the 73-87 trucks

Looks good to me. I don't think I'd pay more than 3,500-4K if everything checks out and there are no issues.

I paid 2500 a month ago for the same base truck. No lift, 100k verified miles, no mods. New GM long block 40k ago due to a faulty oil change.

It's a fully loaded, air, cruise, power everything.

Got it. So it seems that there are some better deals out there. Can anyone post up some links of k5s this clean for a lot less money? I would be interested in checking out some more trucks for comparison.

From the pic looks real clean. from your description 4-5 grand seems reasonable depending on if it checks out. I don't see any obvious rust issues. Either it was well taken care of or well covered up. Seeing it in person would be the only way to tell. You could see it in the frame and crossmembers if there was a lot of previous rust.

What year did TBI start, 87? If I were buying a new project, that would be a requirement.

I'm gonna say if you can get that for 4-5K in your area it's a damn good deal...

Yes, guys out west will tell you all about all the great rust free deals, yet I never see the plethora of ads posted to back it up.

My advice, find a CK5er in the area and either ask him nicely to check it out for you, or arrange to meet them there to check it out together.

And if it's what you want, in your price range and you have a warm fuzzy feeling about it, buy it. I had friends laugh at me for buying my latest ride. Now they want me to find them something like it.

The deals aren't all that great out here in SoCal, and a lot of the old square bodies are beat to hell, they just aren't rusted like in the East. I paid 5k for mine, 7 years ago. It had a tired 5.7 tbi, 150k on the truck, nice original interior, nice pearl white paint job, 6" cheap lift and 35" mud tires with aluminum wheels. I felt it was a fair price. Mine is an 88 with the 700r4. It was exactly what I was looking for as far as lift, tires, and overdrive trans.

If the truck makes you happy, who cares if it costs an extra thousand or so, vs. hoping for another deal that may or may not happen?

I had an 85, which may have been a th350 trans, and it needed the engine reassembled and the interior and exterior were bad looking, but with very little rust. I paid $750 for that, 8 years ago. I happily sold it off for $750 and took the 88 in running condition and nice shape, for $5k.
