Hello ,I want to say I've been reading some of the posts on here and I'm glad I found this site ,it's awesome. I have a question about a np205 tcase ,I would like to know how to change the rear output from a slip yoke to a CV on the cheap .it's a case out if a 91 3500 gmc wrecker
Any help would be great

Hey Swamp Turtle, welcome aboard!

The factory made most 205 cases with a drive yoke, instead of a slip yoke. Finding another case and swapping some parts over may be the easiest

Look for this nub on your case, and the donor

That means its a synchronized unit

205 Info here:

Thanks Bent 77,it is a synchronized case so does that mean I have to find another synchronized case for parts? I thought all 205s would have interchangeable parts

That is a section I have to research on. I've never been in a synchronized case
Looks like we will both be learning on this one

Do believe the synchro only relates to the front part though

welcome to the site . :woot:

your truck is prob not original with that syncro case inside .

for the REAR output the tail shaft and seal retainer is all you need . best to pop apart or pull speedo drive ( 1-1/8" thin wall socket ) and see if its plastic or metal speedo gear . then you will know what shaft to get and then just pop it apart and swap the shaft and seal retainer for the old slip yoke cone . there is people buying the slip yoke parts so dont toss them .

i have a HUGE step by step with pics build up of a 205 here but you need to be a paid member to view it in the section its posted in . https://ck5.com/forums/threads/4l80...05-ord-doubler-3-sticked-its-all-done.253000/

lots of guys now are using the ford mid2000 front c/v shaft on the rear for the 1350 c/v head and rear u-joint size . then get a flat flange from ORD or HAD and it will bolt up to the fixed yoke rear of the 205 you just installed and then get the driveshaft cut to length and balanced and you're good to go after you check and set rear pinion angles .

anymore questions just ask . :waytogo:

The only difference from a syncro case and not is the whole front output and shift fork. The rest of the case is the same.

Synchronized left, non right.

Am I missing something?
And often I am but...
Can’t he use a slip yoke CV driveshaft?
Or did I miss a word that said “slip to SYE then CV”?
:dunno:

Here is the plan, I want to get rid of the slip yoke and use a fixed yoke flange with a double cardan ,I figured that if I have any driveshaft trouble I could remove it and get out of the trail on front wheel drive without loosing oil .This is in a scout 800 I'm building for my grandsons with their help 4.3 gm 700r4/np205 ,so if I'm reading this correctly any 205 tear output shaft and fixed yoke will go into my 91 synchronized 205? Thanks for all the responses

yes. The 205 output will just swap over. unbolt the rear output housing and pull it out. Note that there are loose roller bearings between the input and output shaft. So you will want some thick assembly grease/frozen petroleum jelly to hold those in place for reassembly. This stuff is the best. Also you don't want them to fall down into the transfer case, then you will have to further dissemble to recover them.

This website has all the rebuild info

Complete fixed rear output assembly removed. the Slip yoke is the same

Here is a youtube rebuild series if your more of a video person
