New member to the forum. New Daily 1984 K5 Blazer

Welcome aboard!
Good to see another square saved!

The Blazer is paid for. I have always wanted one. Now I want to over build it. I don’t see putting the money into the stock 10 Bolt axles. GM Dana 60’s are getting harder to find. When I finally sourced one I jumped on it. May as well use it.
Oh no!!! he said the forbidden words!!!

Killer truck man. While my blazer is not a DD I did the wonton swap and it was well worth it. Plenty of build threads on this site for reference as you dive in. Welcome, and link your build thread here too so we can all follow along...

what doesn't? I guess a fully loaded Ford diesel for over $100,000 is reasonable?
That's not an exageration either. In Cali, all trucks now need to be weight certified to be sold and we have one of the few sets of certified scales in the county so the car dealers come to us for their weights. I have personally seen 2 trucks, one for 95k and another for 100k. And by the time you pay those trucks off they won't be worth squat.

Im thinkin of selling my big truck aswell, i never tow anything. Gas mileage sucks. Might get a little chevy Colorado or something used. Would really like to build a square that could get good gas mileage but i dont think thats possible.
Nope. Sold my 2019 Ram Cummins truck too.

You are probably on the mark. Things can be done to make them better but the trade offs are large.

6.2 K5’s could get into the low 20’s if you don’t lift it or put bigger tires on it. Best I got with my 5.3 K5 was 16ish mpg with 4” lift and 35” tires.

Not saying it can’t be done but one has to be realistic on what can be accomplished.

That’s been my biggest hang up on swapping the 5.3L into mine. I have thought about the 5.3L and a single 76mm turbo just for giggles. That gets a little outta hand though.

I have an aluminum head 383 stroker sitting on the stand. Thought about using it.

The current 350 that is in the K5 is burning oil. I am guessing valve seals. I have a set of aluminum head to go on it.

Gas mileage at the end of the day isn’t gonna be new truck great. I get that. I am not in the mood to swap a newer transmission and transfer case into this rig. It’s paid for. I guess fuel costs take the place of a car payment.

Man, your story really hits home with me. I had an '18 JKU that I bought new a few years back and my wife came up to me and told me she was pregnant so I started thinking of ways to cut back on monthly financial obligations so I set my sites on the Jeep. I already have a LJ so I really didn't need the JKU. Anyways, I told her I was gonna buy a suburban for a family hauler and get rid of the Jeep. Little did she realize I was looking at a '91 squarebody Suburban lol. Anyways, I sold the Jeep a week or so later and drove home in my stylish "new" sub and she just sorta gave me a look. We have driven it all over since (all over TX, NM, CO, etc) and she's a little better with it now.

Anyways, I definitely don't regret it one bit.

I will say that I am really unhappy with the TBI 350 and am currently collecting parts for a 6.0 swap. Driving through the mountains was terrible.
