New owner of an 81 K5

PICS PICS PICS PICS!!! :thumb:
I love that color man.

Man, that thing is nice. Would also like to find one that clean some day too. Mine was solid, but not clean... or straight. So, at least I don't mind beating on it. But if I found one like that, I'd keep the beating to a minimum.

I'll crawl over and under it over the weekend, before I start De-greasing and detailing next week and take pics of everything, even the minimal amounts of rust... I'm out of my favorite De-greaser and just ordered some, it will be here next week, B52 Brown Bomber, amazing stuff... and I've got some POR15 ordered to stop what rust is there until I get to the point I want to replace the metal... As far as wheeling, this truck wont see much but the Forest Service Roads I travel in the North Georgia Mountains for trout fishing, some places are rutty enough a 2 wheel drive truck couldn't go, but not rough... I plan on keeping this truck stock, original, and clean... Slowly restoring as the funds flow in... As Far As the color, its growing on me, I'm definitely not changing it though... Although I am highly considering taking the color of the topper and roof back to the stock white, the paint on the topper is pretty shot... I'll be posting progress pics as I go... :waytogo:

Got new tires on, and took those (to me any way) "ugly @$$" mud flaps off... lol :thumb:

They may have been ugly, but they did a good job of keeping stones and such from damaging the lower paint which inevitably turns to rust.

Yes you are correct they did/do an amazing job of saving the lower portion of the body, but I just could not leave them...

I like mudflaps of certain kinds. However it's hard to find them for our trucks anymore without being the generic ugly ones.

Ok, first issue... Walked out Christmas day and smelled fuel really strong.... Noticed a wet spot on the ground underneath the rear of the Blazer... Poked around, removed the fuel tank skid and there is a tiny split in the dead center of the bottom of the fuel tank??? :dunno: Did some searching on the board and the net in general... Have a new fuel tank and sending unit (fuel gauge not working and troubleshooting points to the sending unit) on the way from Rock Auto... New 31gal tank just got here, waiting on sending unit... Will be replacing this evening if the sending unit gets here early enough

No, wasn't bad rusty.... had the normal 31 years worth of stuff in it but not bad... after I got it out and looked closer the hole, was a split (like a crack) about a 1/2" long right in the center of the flat portion on the bottom??? Not sure how it happened??? There was a softball sized dent in the center of the tank where the crack was... not sure how it got there since the skid plate was in place and not dented??? I got it all installed and everything works, even the fuel gauge...

Any rub points?

Hard to say what can happen in 30 years of owners.

Maybe somebody had the skid off or something and it got dented and put stress on that spot and it finally said efff you lol.

May have not come with a skid too.

BANG.

"Hmmm, maybe I should get a skid to protect/cover that up."

I checked the optional equipment sticker in the glove compartment and it says "fuel tank & skid pla", this K5 was loaded.... but it does seem like it had been removed at one Time to cause that...
