I have a brand new psc pump, gearbox, and reservoir, with ORD crossover. lifted the truck and did the bleeding proceedure until there was no bubbles in the fluid etc, etc. Truck would steer great but would squeal like crazy if you reached the stops. Is this normal with a brand new psc pump?

All of this was done with 35 12.50's, now I bolted up 39.5's and it squeals just trying to turn them.

Can anyone explain if this is normal for a New PSC pump, to squeal. Kinda disappointed in the squealing.

Any comments or thoughts appreciated.

While I don't have any PSC stuff I'm sure pump whine is definitely not normal. I would think it need to be bled more. Are you running a cooler? Any chance air might be trapped in it?

no cooler, yet was waiting to order it when I get the ram. I guess I will have to do some more bleeding again and see if that helps.

Mine did the same thing. I found that it was making bubbles from trapped air. I turned the motor off and let the bubbles settle out for 10 minutes and started it again going lock to lock tell it squealed then turned it off again. about 5 times and it quit.

Good luck

I'm sure you are talking about pump whine when you mention squealing, but historically squealing is a different sound. If you are hearing an actual high pitched squeal, you may be hearing a slipping belt. You might want to check for a loose or glazed belt. A quick check would be to spray a belt dressing on and see if the noise stops for a while.
A really long shot would be the pulley slipping on the shaft.

We heard it in person the other night, he does have a slight belt squeal when he starts it but the noise he's referring to is a screech when he hits lock on one side. Like some kind of banshee.:doah::haha:

If it's a true squeal, the belt is most likely worn out. Worn out belts are the cause of most squealing. Belt dressing is a poor band aid and usually makes a mess. Get a new belt.

it was installed with a new belt, and it has made noise since it was installed.

I think it is just loose and I have even pryed on the bracket trying to get it tight, but I havent messed with it since the other night. I will try to retighten the belt when I get a chance.

True, about the only time I have found belt dressing to help long term was when I had a really worn pulley. But in this case I was advising him to use is diagnostically to see if it was the belt or the pump.

The screech could still be the belt. You should be able to see the pulley or belt stall or slow way the heck down it that is what it is when the pump stalls out.
However, when you reach the lock, and the steering is still calling for the wheels to move and they have reached their limit, then the pressure overload in the pump has to open or blow something.
That is the noise you usually hear when you turn to lock.
If you are hearing that when you are trying to turn the wheels in range, then either the bypass is weak, or something is binding in the linkage.
