New Ride! 78 GMC. *The build thread that never was?*

those tires arent new enough to have the date code on them.

do you want some descent burnt orange door pockets for that thing? i see that atleast your drivers one is m.i.a
all tires sold in the US have a DOT date code on them. Before Y2k they used to be 3 digits, after Y2k they had 4.
I have tires that are more than 25 years old, and they all have the date code on them, it's always on the inside wall, never on the outside wall.

did you find DOT anywhere where you found the numbers, cause I didn't see it in your pics.
all the tires I have had, didn't have more than DOT and the 3 or 4 digits, but I guess each manufacturer had their own way of putting them, but they need to have the DOT preceding the numbers because they have a bunch of numbers on a tires and you need to know what you are looking at.

Bagh, my link didnt work.. Anyway, the numbers go "DOT * AU11 CC 251 2385"

The * is actually a maple leaf.

interesting, you sure of the numbers?
I see 4 digits but I see an 85 for the year, which means your tire is from the future 2085:haha:
Unless that company used 4 digits for 1985, which makes you tire as old as my oldest tires here.:pimp:

those numbers are not it. they need to be preceded with DOT.
And I always find trucks with bolts instead of rivets in a couple of spots, and I had to do it once too, the rivet got too lose and I had to grind it off and drill the hole clean and put a bolt and nut.

Then its got to be these ones.

I belive it to be the 251. The scary thing tho is that could mean these tires are from 91. Not ok.

I would say from the pic, and knowing these tires are more than a couple of years old, the numbers to go with are 25th week of 91.
Not too bad for 11 years old tires.
I bought my chalet 6 years ago and it had 12 y o tires on it, I went o BB 2006 with them and drove it around town for the following 4 years, and now has been sitting for 2 years, and I went and started it up and moved a week ago, and the tires still have good tread, decent traction even on grass, and they barely show any weather cracking if you look reall closely.
I would drive these tires more confidently, than some 3 year olds I have on my car.

Answered my own question. Yep! That is scary! They are starting to weather check pretty bad in the tread. I think im going to have to buy new tires. Bet the chevy they came off of was made in canada.
