New Ride! 78 GMC. *The build thread that never was?*

Thanks man! At least when i put the new carb on i can finally classify this as a "build"! :haha: Then its, new exhaust gaskets, finish painting the white, do the body mounts, and instal the tilt column. All the while i will be on the look out for new bed side trim. Mine has eleventy billion screws holding it on and looks like poo poo.

check out this place...they got cheap shipping...$9.99

they got all the trim pieces

I certainly dont want to buy new. It would look massivly out of place with all the other old stuff that still looks ok. Later on, when i can paint it, i plan on trying to buff and clear this trim.

Well since i ruined my fuel pump trying to get the fuel line off, Today i ordered a new fuel pump and a timing tape to put on the balancer to dial the timing in. It runs pretty decent now, but i want to "tune" the distributor. And the timing tape is a hell of a lot cheaper than a dial type timing light. So tomorrow, i need to clean the bench off in the garage so i can start on rebuilding the qjet. Im also reading my Cliff Ruggles qjet book as i have time. I have rebuilt a good handful of these with good results, but why not see if there is something more i can be doing to gain MPG and HP right?

Going to toss the q-jet on tomorrow finally. On a side note, I had an awesome dream last night! I drempt that the truck was all "done" how i want it. 6.0/4l80e, white wheels and hub caps, BFG's, body all fixed up, canopy, etc. It was perfect. The premise of the dream was that i had somehow shipped it over to Europe and was driving it all around over there! It was awesome! I even had a part of the dream where it was dark and i was cruising around some crazy British road and it was one of those extreme peaceful portions of drive. The type where the truck is dialed in and the cruise is just relaxing. Only relaxing. IT was incredible. It makes me want to get this truck done sooo bad!

Qjet on. And new fuel pump on. I just need to pick up a bender for the new fuel line. Oh and an electric choke element.

Got it running. New fuel line bent up half way decent. Also my choke element hasn't come in yet so it's running no choke until Sunday.

Well sadly, Martin gets his wish. The Qjet ran great in the driveway and most the way too work. Then it started flooding like a mofo. Like the float was stuck. I don't know. So I pulled it off and apart today. Everything looks good inside but I'm just going to do a rebuild and new float/needle/seat and see what happens. I can't imagine that my new fuel pump puts out too much pressure but we'll see.

Get a good kit from cliffshiperformance, comes with the float and new style rubber pump
For today's ethanol fuel. Call his shop and if u get lucky he might get on the phone.
You have his book.

While I'm waiting for my carb parts to come in I tossed in the tilt column I got from 1BEATK5. And over three long weekend coming up I plan on doing new body mounts (which I already have) and then seeing how much of the following I can get done, finish painting the white, finish painting the wheels and swapping them from the burb to the pickup, replace the header gaskets at the heads, weld on adapters in place of the collector flanges, and weld in an H pipe.

Got my rebuild kit in today! I'll probably get it back togetherttomorrow. Saturday I'm going rafting up on the Kalama river, but it's back to the truck on Sunday and Monday!

Well I got excited when I got home from work tonight and put the carb back together. Hopefully it runs good now! I have wanted an electric choke quadrajet for a long long time!
