New Ride! 78 GMC. *The build thread that never was?*

Im working on it. Slowly... I got two of my wheels painted and pulled the burb out and turned it around so that i cold get to th other side to start painting them. Heres what they look like. Since the burb is going to be a perminent fixture in the garage for the forseable future, im going to have my mud tires mounted on the steel wheels. Should look pretty awesome.

I really like your plans for your '78. Kinda like what I'm doing with mine. Eventually mine with have some kind of heavily modified LS under the hood but that's way down the road.

You have a pick of those steel wheels? Curious about what they look like...

But yea, quite a bit like what your doing. As far as making it as nice as possible without making it so nice that I'm afraid to use it. Kind of a resto mod. I think my plans, like yours, are pretty realistic. Its just going to take time. Mainly time to get a real shop instead of my tiny little garage.

Another out loud thought of possibilities....

Several folks here and on other boards have done an affordable fuel injection TBI kit. I cant help but think about how perfect these kits would be for the 78... Although i do have a deep seeded hatred for TBI after my fiasco with my suburban. But, im fairly certain that was an anomaly. If you have been following along, you know a buddy of mine just ditched his TBI system. I can probably get his throttle body and Dist for next to nothing. Maybe even free. A 7747 computer is the most common and cheap ECM in the junk yards. A TBI harness from AFI is only $265... So, i figure for less than $500 (after a fuel pump and incidentals) i could be rockin fuel injection. Could be a fun little winter project too. I really dont like the way the Edelbrock runs that i have on there now. And Quadrajets can be fairly finicky. Not that im particularly against the quads. I do quite enjoy them, but the thought of fuel injection for maybe $500 or less is hard to ignore... Oh boy. Me and my brain. Its all CK5's fault!

Do it. Why not just wire it up yourself? If you can wire up a Gen III swap, you can wire up TBI.

Mostly just hard to argue with only $265. But i could also wire it up myself. We shall see. Does kinda sound like a good winter project.

Trading my edelbrock for a quadrajet tomorrow! :woot: hopefully that talks me out of wanting to do TBI.

I love my quadrajet...at least a I can remember...it's been so long. I like punching it an hearing that sucking sound

Its a very unique sound they make! I love it too! Sounds... Ominous? Powerful? Intense? Something like that. But it is cool!

I don't remember where I bought my Rochester but it's probably in the thread, but I took it out of the box and bolted it on and it was tuned perfectly.

Love your wheels too...glad to see somebody else sporting the white steelies...I love that stock look...
I guess it wouldn't be different if everybody was doing it, but I like it.

Thanks man! At least when i put the new carb on i can finally classify this as a "build"! :haha: Then its, new exhaust gaskets, finish painting the white, do the body mounts, and instal the tilt column. All the while i will be on the look out for new bed side trim. Mine has eleventy billion screws holding it on and looks like poo poo.
