New Ride! 78 GMC. *The build thread that never was?*

No doubt! And I can't say I really disagree with her. I like the feel of a nice, crisp, clean house. So long as it still has "warmth". She's pretty good at achieving that feeling so even if I sometimes don't share her vision, I go along with it cause the end result is normally better than what I would have done...

Mostly. But I have learned that I do enjoy some of the end results of some of the stuff she makes me do!

So what if... I was to do a straight across trade for this crew? Gain two doors but lose a transfercase. Seems to be in roughly the same condition as my truck.

For a similar condition truck, doesn't sound like a bad deal. You still have two other 4x4 trucks that I know of.

I say it's dumb. If you need passenger room, you have a suburban. If you need a truck you have the current truck that know the condition of. You trade it you get a vehicle that probably wouldn't fit in the garage and you don't know if it's in good shape or not.

Well if I'm honest, my main motivation is fear. I fear that I will get $10k into the 78 to get it finished only to never really drive it because the single cab makes it somewhat impractical. I mean if it's just me and the wife going to the beach for the day, we'll never take the 78 cause there isn't enough room inside for the duffle bag, pillow, and change of clothes. And if we ever have kids, the 78 is as good as dead from a pragmatic standpoint. I know that the obstacles of a single cab can be overcome, but then I think, why bother overcoming those obstacles when I could just eliminate them instead?

The 78 needs everything. It needs a motor, body work, and paint. So I'm not too concerned about the other one needing the same stuff.

Right now I have very few hours and very little money into the 78 so now would be the time to part with it.

Another source of motivation is that right now, the wife daily drives the 12. And she does all our grocery shopping and running around. It's not the most practical thing for her. So I could trade the 12 in on something like a Toyota Carolla and get her into something that works better.

As to having a burb and a truck, I can't get rid of the burb. It's stuck with me forever as somewhat of an heirloom. I dunno. We'll see. I haven't even approached the wife about it. She has talked me into keeping the 78 several times.

Let's be fair, I was not nor ever condoning getting rid of the burb. I just meant with the burb the "need" for a crew cab is pretty much handled. But I guess it's a moot point anyhow.

If the 78 is not practical anymore, and is not seeing any useage, maybe the win-win is to sell it and stick the money back into the Suburban :dunno::dunno::dunno:

I kinda want a 2wd. They just ride and drive so much better! And I kinda need the pickup around. There has been many times over the years where I am doing a project which produces debris about a quarter of a pickup load at a time over the course of a month or so. So it works really good as a temporary container for that kind of thing.

I sorta feel like if I sold it then it means I have given up. My life's ambition is to build nice trucks. And while I have it waiting, it feels like I can hold out hope that one day I'll actually get to do it. So I guess it serves as a reminder of what I'm working towards. Anyway, it's a done deal. I'll keep the 78 and wait for the day where I actually get to work on it.

Good call!

We had to sell our 72 when my boy showed up on scene, for a while we had the k5 and the 72 long bed.. ,an I miss that truck. Ultimately the k5 suits the family way better.. But funny enough she ended up with her dads old 92 which is twice the money pit any truck I have ever had.

The 12 is pretty much my dream truck. But as it is, I drive it probably once a week on average. She drives it the rest of the time. So the logical part of me said well, why not get something that's more of a city car for her cheaper, and gets better mileage and use the old crew for stuff like going riding and junk like that.
