New Ride! 78 GMC. *The build thread that never was?*

Well, you can't sell a truck that has a worklog titled "New Ride!". It's a rule somewhere. So, you had just as well forget that option.

Seen you in the great white north today....oh wait it's 2wd :haha:

Pic was taken mid snowstorm :doah:

Well guys, I met up with the guy with the crew cab, (very nice guy!) and I gotta say, I'm really torn on what I wanna do. Kinda leaning towards the swap. I know the guy is on the fence just like me. The story with the crew cab is that he recently bought his house on some land from an old guy and got the truck with the house. He doesn't have any desire for a crew cab but wants 4wd. Anyway, while I think about it, here are a few pics I took. Body wise, it's in much better shape than my truck. Has virtually no rust.

If the truck is in equal/better mechanical condition AND has the long cab AND saves you from all the rust-fixing you were planning for the other truck, it sounds like you're not losing anything but 4WD. And that can be added more easily than doing a drive-train swap, right? Or you could do both, if you felt the need.

Would you rather deal with rust or 2WD? I would be jumping at this if that was the exact configuration that you wanted and you don't have much invested in the '78 anyway. You can add a front axle later if you want, but you can't add more doors to the '78.

Were you are from I would keep what you got.

If you want a crew that bad find a 4x4 one...you keep posting good deals on rust free ones.

Oh yeah. I didn't think of that. :doah:

Here in the Midwest that would be a no-brainer. But you can afford to be picky over there if you want 4x4 that badly.

How often would you use 4WD?

Swapping to 4x4 would be funner than body work in my book. The other thing is, the single cab 4x4s are truly a dime a dozen around here. A virtually rust free crew cab (Silverado no less) is a rarity. Swapping to 4x4 I have done before and is not too tough if I ever feel the need. If the guy is still down to trade after sleeping on it, I'm going to do it. And remember, everything I was going to do to the 78 will get done to this. So it will end up being bad ass!

I'll definitely keep the big block. It runs pretty nice. Has headers and glass packs and is shockingly quiet until you get into then it has that cool pap pap pap sound. No smoke and the exhaust smells proper.

Anyway, I called him this morning. He said he us still mulling it over but leaning towards doing the trade. Aperently this weekend is no good... So it would he during the week if we did do it.

No I realize they are getting more rare. But the crews are already rare. They will be virtually non existent soon

I agree body work sucks bolting in 4x4 is much different work but I am with you on this. This would be a super cool truck if you can get it.

That crew cab is ugly.

Even my dad agrees. He saw my computer and saw a pic of your truck and said oh thats sharp!!

Then i scrolled to the CC and he said, yah thats not sharp. Thats actually pretty ugly.

No lies. Word for word :haha:
