New rig craigs list score

Although not as critical because you have the sm465 but you should re-gear it before or at the same time as when you lift it and throw larger tires on it. Honestly I would run 33's and throw one ton axles in it if you goal is to use it as a hunting/towing rig. You would be surprised how much stuff you can tackle with these trucks just in stockish form. I would try to find a better set of heads/cam and intake for it as well. It will really wake the motor up.

I got 1989 version 454, smog heads, eldebrock performer intake, headers stock cam, good quadrajet carb ...goes pretty good actually! :D

I got a set of 781 heads for it on the self in my garage. A cam and the heads would be nice but I don't think I need them.

Others will disagree! :haha::popcorn:

My 81' K30 has the original 454 in it, and I don't know what heads are on it or whatever, but for 210HP, it moves pretty good, even for a 9,000lb truck.

454/sm465?

You're half way to being a 1 ton lol.
That would be impossible. Unless, he found a K30 regular cab frame, shortened it, and swapped it in to the K5.

Throwing a 60/14 combo under his K5 would give him a pretty durable 1/2 ton though. :D

Look for a tag on the outside. If not, you can rotate both tires the same direction one full revolution and count the pinion rotation.

The most surefire way to tell what gears you have is to the pull the cover, and check the numbers on the ring gear. It is a good time to clean them out, inspect them, and change gear lube while you are at it.
