I got the salad bowl looking adaptor that is supposed to incrase the airflow into the tbi. R u supposed to open up the bottom of the air cleaner assembly to match the increased width of the salad bowl. In the directions it said just pop it on but I would think that would be counter productive to the benifits ur supposed to gain since the opening in the aircleaner is still the same

yeah, you hog out the whole inner section.. to the lip of the salad bowl.. iirc, theres a lip just inside the air filter that is perfect to cut it at... if you need, i can dig mine out and take a pic..

edit.... here ya go...

it's CFM Tech's powercharger.... best mod ya can do for tbi, other than an AFPR....

I always wondered how the f*** you install those things! I want one now!

So an adjustable regulator really helps that much?

biggest power jump for tbi is by far boosting that stock pressure up... if ya throw a gauge to a stock setup they usually have like 7 to 9 psi iirc.... bump that up to like 12 to 14 and you REALLY feel it...

the one bad thing about the basic adjustable regulator is it's a HUGE pain to adjust.. little knurled knob under the back.. not easy to get to...

I was at a juncture today where I had to decide whether I should start modding the TBI / 355 a little bit or if I should go with what I really want to do with my truck.

I chose to leave the 350 and save my pennies for a 4bt and ranger OD.

it can add up quick.. kinda hurts buying a salad bowl for like $40...

I did the mod where you grind down the lips that go up around the throttle bores on the TB. Has anyone else done that and noticed any difference? I havent had much of a chance to drive the thing since then, but the pressure reg and TBI rebuild are towards the top of the list this summer.

don't remember that one... just a smoothing? not a boring?

I remember seeing on some TBI hop up site(I thinkit was CFM Tech) that by cutting off those lips and smoothing out that radius it was supposed to help airflow alot. No boring involved.

Mine is still slightly rough, Im going to polish where I removed all the material when I do the TBI kit, I sanded and smoothed it but its still rougher than I would like.

I would like to see dyno comparason of these mods, I dont think with an otherwise stock engine that most wont do anything worthwhile.

just a one at a time, seat of the pants for me.. let it be known tho, i don't overly tout stuff.. i'm not one of "add up all the numbers advertised in Summit" types...

i didn't notice anything from either spacer i installed...

anyone try making one from an actual salad bowl....?:dunno::whistle:

honestly as long as the diameter dimensions worked out, it'd be pretty simple... me, it was a convenience purchase..

I did both the salad bowl and grind and smooth thing to the bores. I didn't run it before those mods but my rebuilt 350 seems to be taking some advantage of the extra airflow, but not that much.

Just to throw this in, there have been times in the past when things were made too smooth.
Nothing you folks are doing is going to get to that extreme, but some turbulence is necessary to help mix the fuel and air and keep them mixed to the cylinders.

I once read an article where an experimental engine kept things laminar all the way to the valves, and it ran like crap.
The fuel/air was not homogeneous and some cylinders were flooding and some were starving.
