I currently have an 8" Superlift on my 89 K5 with appropriate shocks, but I am going to a 15". Do I need to buy new shocks?

Ohhhhh thanks CherryK5! That was SO incredibly helpful! Don't worry about it, I didn't ask for approval of the lift.

Thats just an outrageous amount of lift, i wasnt being a dick, i was honestly asking why.

Hey now, be nice, especially for your first post. :shame:

Note it's fairly easy to tell; can your shocks extend another 7" and have any movement left? [Answer: I doubt it.]

Depending on what you're gonna do to go that high, I doubt you'll have much flex, so I donno you'll NEED shocks :haha:

Your gonna need alot more than new shocks. Brake lines and shocks will be easier than compared to the driveline angles your gonna have. What are you planning on running for axles and trans/transfer case?

He was not saying your stupid for doing it, he was simply asking what application your turning your k5 into, its not everyday someone goes about a 15" lift.

Alright alright, sorry! I figured since it was my first post, I would get a little razzing for a simple question! I jumped the gun, sorry. Well I knew I my shocks would no longer have any movement, but I didn't know if I could relocate them to a spot where I would retain their function. Then again, with 15" springs I doubt they will provide much function anyways.

This is my third K5 build and I'm getting a little crazy with this one. I built a modest DD/Crawler for the first, another crawler/sand rig for the second, and I'm going mudding with the third. We have a huge mud pit on our farm that we get a few trucks in and its time to build a more appropriate rig. So, I'm jacking this one up on 15" lift and putting a 14 bolt rear SF and Dana 60 front with both geared 4:88 and locked. I've got a good buddy who does driveshafts, brake lines are taken care of, hydraulic steering is almost done, and everything else is in the works.

So Cherry, where would I relocate the shock mounts to??

A custom inboarding setup.
Im sure that would be th easiest way. Moving the shock location to the top of the axle would give you 3 inches so you could fab something like a diy4x inboarding kit, but drop the bar 4 inches. And call it done.

Nice! I can make that myself! Perfect, thanks guys! I already have the SF sitting there, otherwise I'd go FF.

What is nice about this site is that you don't have to worry about anyone giving you any "razzing". Everyone here is cool :waytogo:.

why not just cut the fenders? Sounds like a toy that's going to get beat on anyway. I'd stay with the 8" lift and cut for larger tires. I think the brotherhood is 100% behind that idea. The truck would work a whole lot better too.

Pictures of your rigs??????

Inboarding the shocks is a compromise to fit long travel shocks with a lower lift height, doing that makes the shocks less effective.

For a tall lift height like that, you should be able to move the axle side mounts on top of the axle tube and weld a couple tabs at the bottom of the frame and make a set of off-the-shelf shocks work.

Thanks Chris! I was underneath it yesterday and that looks like it would be the best possible way to use the shocks I have now with the taller lift.
