Hello Ck5. I come from a world slightly smaller:waytogo: I've always been into jeeps, and currently drive a Cherokee..Xj, 5speed 4x4. I was curious if you guys could help me on the value deal here..I'm thinking of trading my jeep, for a 82 burb..I'll list whats done to the jeep & list whatever I can about the burb.
I've rebuilt almost everything on the Xj! EVERYTHING LISTED IS NEW AS OF LATE July 2011. Its a 1988, 5speed, 4.0, 4x4, Laredo! Its got a 3" OME lift..coils & leafs. Hss 31" tires around 60%, 2 years old., manual locks & windows, cruise control working A/C & heat.
Drivetrain- 94' D30 non-dsico with chromo's, 01' 29spline c8.25 rear axle with rebuilt LSD, 100% rebuilt-hubs, u joints, seals & bearings, ect. 3.73 gears. New from dealer ax15, np231 rebuilt/upgrade with 6 gear planetary & 1.25" fast chain. Original short block with 242K, rebuilt & gasket matched High output head swapped at 238K. 60mm Tb, Updated 4hole "703" injectors, 2.5" Magnaflow HF cat & muffler. Ironman 1/4" Motor mounts, poly trans mount.

Interior- front seats refoamed, seat covers steamed clean, ZERO stains, floors bedlined, 100% new carpet, new headliner, Alpine deck & tweeters, sony explode speakers, Everything works!

Extras- HD 1.5" solid steering, update "open" cooling system, Zj Hd fan clutch, New Luk Gold clutch, new pilot & slave, new master. New brakes, hubs, ball joints ect. New starter, new & upwound 145A alt, upgrade all mains & grounds to 0gauge & a 200A ANL fuse, durango steering box & 3/16" spacer, CB hooked up & working, gas tank skid, all maitenance since July 2011 was done with receipts.
5speed, 3.73's & 31's make it a dream in town & on the highway..18/23-24 mpg..about 20 combined.
Everything is 100% new as of July 2011, maybe 5-6K on it all since then..242K, HO head rebuilt & swapped at 238k. Compression was 151+- across the board at 238k, straight body/clean title, paints alright for being 24 years old. NO rust! I use it for trail running/exploring & camping...however its kind of small with 4 people & gear inside. So I started looking for burbs and found this & started thinking if it was worth trading my jeep for?

82, 1500, rear barn doors, sm465, 350, np208. says 3/4 axles swapped with 4.10s...7" lift-leafs front/blocks rear & 38's, no A/c, superwinch manual hubs..Needs new power steering pump, rebuilt carb, owner will re-register & smog & deal with the minor problems, or cash on top so I can fix them.
Can't seem to post the CL link:confused:

However I would drop it down to around 3" or so and 33's. And use it for my new camping/Expo rig...I'm just wondering I guess common issues, is it a fair trade honestly? I've got ALOT sunk into my jeep..receipts for everything. Trans was 1300 alone, brand new 0 miles. Its litterally been rebuilt from the ground up, except the short block & paint. Doesn't leak a single drop of anything either! I would love to get into a full size, but is it worth the trade? What would be my issue? Common issues? Thinks to look for? I read the read before buying sticky already, but any advice?
Should I be asking for cash on top & still have him fix the issues?

Solid body and frame and clean interior is what you want, after that everything else is cake.

Chevy 350s are cheap to replace if/when needed
SM465 is fairly indestructible
NP208 is a decent case, rebuild/replace when the time comes
3/4 ton axles are perfect for what you want to do with this truck
Surprisingly capable in stock form, made better with 3" lift and 33s

I can't answer the "worth" part of the question. You have a lot into your XJ already, but we all know we never get back what we put into these things. I think I'd make him register/repair/pass smog before doing a straight up trade.

Pics of both vehicles in question would be helpful in this situation.

Keep The jeep and build a trailer.

The size is nice in the burb, but depending on were you go it is a big disadvantage too. Also yoo are trading a known relaible working rig for an unknown. Probably cracked frame at steering box from those 38s. Is it rusty?

Sounds like your Jeep is a 5k+ rig and the burban is a 2-3k rig.

Maybe if he fixed all the issues, and gave you 1500-2k it would be a good deal in my eyes

Get rid of the Heep. Everyone and their damm grandma has a damm Heep. I hate Jeeps.

It's hard to say without photos of the vehicles in question, but it sounds like your Jeep is worth $4k to $5k and the Suburban is worth a lot less.

After buying and selling 100+ cars I would NEVER trade one for another. Always sell and get cash, the negotiate with cash to buy.

Check the buyers guide in my signature and then look at the Suburban. You may find it's not worth buying if it's rusted out.

For $5k you should be able to get an immaculate Suburban.

I would say not worth it.

I am all for tradin rigs when I get the better deal, which hasn't happened yet.

In your case what was said above is what I would do. Put yours up for sale find a nice clean burb whether stock or modded and go from there.

Around here your xj would be a hard sale at 5k more like 3k but you can get a dang clean burb for 3k. Especially if you wait for the right deal to come along.
