Ive been looking for a tow rig for awhile and was have always wanted a 3+3. Well I was set in getting a 3/4 burb when this came across craigslist. I left immediately and bought the truck. By the time I got there (3 hrs away) the guy had 10 people on a list to come get it. Its an 84 3+3 4x4...350/th400/NP 205...Dana 60 front 14BFF rear. Its really clean and has a Dealer installed motor/trans with 30k on it. Minor Surface rust and minor dings....I swooped it up for 1800 and drove it home. It drives great aside from the crap tires. Im thinking I wil start a build thread soon. Im deciding between a 4" or 6" lift and plan to run the Hummer Goodyear tires.

Any Thoughts?

As much as I love a nice K5, I've been searching for one of these for too long and I have my K5. Maybe someday Ill finish them both!

I still have that other K5 im parting out if your still looking for parts.

Sweet score!

That being said, even stock, that is a SEVERELY underpowered rig. So, that, with the words tow rig, makes me cringe, even before a lift.

I would plan to spend some serious money in the power department (6.0l?) before planning to tow much with it. It will get it done....but verrry slow.

My 91 burb is a turd. 350, 4l80e, just upgraded to 4.10's. With 33's and 4.10's, im getting awful mileage, and it doesn't like getting out of its own way...let alone towing much more than 4k over a pass.

Any Thoughts?
My thoughts? In that case......killer 2 stage fancy paint job, lift like you mentioned, and some nice aluminum rims. Convert the interior to all new Silverado trim, along with Silverado trim for the exterior. Cummins/518 auto swap. :thumb:

You asked.:D

Where did you find that puppy?

Seems like a lot of them were that color, including mine when I bought it. Pretty boring if you ask me.

Oh yea, that was you.... :doah:

I deleted all my pm's, like a 'tard,
and couldn't remember for the life of me, who had the spare parts I needed.... :haha:

Yea, I still need them.

Shoot me a pm, with how much you wanted for the stuff.
That way we can arrange a time to meet up. :D

My thoughts exactly :D

Thanks for all the input! Got the truck in Oroville way back up in the hills. Def. gonna do a nice paint job, i hate the white. Not sure what color yet, im thinking yellow, and use bed liner across the rockers, and in bed, bed rails etc. Black rims, bumpers etc. Im painting my k5 lime green and would like the colors to compliment each other.

As far as being under powered, ive been toeing my K5 with a 1/2 ton suburban, geared for fuel economy. This truck has a tone more power in comparison. As far as future engine swaps, i have a friend whos been sitting on a 6.0 out of a 2001 2500hd for awhile and the thought of that swap has crossed my mind.

Pm sent.

Please don't do yellow or some sort of dark blue that ends up looking purple 90% of the time.

Gunmetal is where its at :deal:

Not sold on the yellow, especially with black rims and bumpers. It will look like a wasp.:doah:

I could see yellow looking good with lots of chrome and polished aluminum rims though, seen that around here on some of the newer rigs. Yellow body with lots of chrome underneath. Looks pretty good actually.

Not fond of that black/yellow....Guess I will be rethinking that! I would like a brighter color only because I live on a dirt road and the dark colors end up looking like crap if you dont wash them everyday, learned that lesson already! Any pics of good color rigs are always appreciated!

Definitely going the black bumpers, black rims route, Im not found of chrome, or cleaning it!
