Yeah 10 years ago I prob. would have passed on it, but married and 3 kids later a crew cab is a perfect vehicle. I dont have to drive the burb. around with the kids and still have enough seating with a truck. The blazer worked for awhile but getting the car seat in and out of the back was a PITA.

not fond of that black/yellow....guess i will be rethinking that! I would like a brighter color only because i live on a dirt road and the dark colors end up looking like crap if you dont wash them everyday, learned that lesson already! Any pics of good color rigs are always appreciated!

Definitely going the black bumpers, black rims route, im not found of chrome, or cleaning it!

orange!

I thought about orange, but my wife wants her 93 sub tangerine orange and I dont wanna match! I thought about a copper orange but not sure......decisions decisions!

Burgundy!

Antenna Mount

The truck a CB, or Ham mount in the center of the roof. Does anyone know what type of mount the are, and how they come off. Its broken but Id like to replace it with some sort of cb mount. Ill post pics later if it helps.

Here are a couple pics to help out. What kind of mount can take its place for a CB?

Decided to re-bearing the rear end, glad I did the pinion support bearing was toast, so its getting new bearings throughout the rear. Pics to follow tomorrow.

This is gonna be sweet, cant wait to see it unfold!:thumb:

Me either! I gotta get pics after the new tires, painted rims etc. After the rear-end is done it will be custom flatbed time. Gonna make it with 2" round tube similar to some of the beds that are on Ryokens flatbed thread but with my own twist.

New Ring, Pinion and Carrier Install

Finally got the New ring, Pinion and carrier installed.

Contact Pattern Coast side (Im thinking im gonna remove some shims to make the pinion a little deeper as I have room and I need to get my backlash a little better into spec, its at .012 but I want to get it around .005.
picture.php

Drive side need a little adjustment, so bringing the pinion deeper and then increasing backlash will center the contact pattern properly. The pattern is a little towards the toe, and i can increase backlash anymore or it will be out of spec. Once the pinion depth is increased, I will be able to increase backlash and be good to go!

Pinion gear, where it rides on the pinion support was toasted, so I had to replace the pinion.

Here is what was left of the Pinion support bearing.... The rest was in pieces throughout the entire diff.

Painted diff cover, supposedly hammer-tone black, but its pretty silver, may have to repaint.

Backlash generally has little to do with pinion depth, it's a separate adjustment. It's REALLY hard to tell from those pictures but the pinion looks too deep already.

Aside from that, a 1st gen Cummins is in the same ballpark as a 6.0L swap and for a tow rig, there is no comparison :deal:

x2 according to your pattern then the pinion is way too deep.

Backlash and pinion depth are 2 entirely separate adjustments, and while they do affect each other a little bit they should always be viewed as 2 completely separate things

Besides the backlash spec for a 14 bolt is .006 -.0012 (that actually might be .0010) I can't remember off hand but I know minimum is .006

Oh. yes I have decided on the cummins eventually. Yes backlash and pinion depth are different adjustments, however when you change pinion depth, backlash also changes. The pics are hard to see from, but the contact path it pretty close to the top and has room to move towards the root, I thought. I could be wrong, but ill know when I decrease the depth.

14 bolt bible says .002-.012 recommended .005-.008. Ill try and get better pics and go from there.
