Oooo Ooooo working out a '72 Jimmy with a nice-ish body and junk drivetrain. and in a separate deal.........picking up the drivetrain out of a '91 crewcab diesel...... yup the whole thing.

6.2 banks turbo'd. 4L80E OEM standalone......NP205 baby. I even got the guage cluster for the electronic speedo.

play my cards right I can put it all together.

Nice! Rick definitely has those two at a decent price eh? If you haven't dealt with him in the past, he is a heck of a great guy!

I think anyone who needed fullsize Chevy parts was ever not out to that farm! I remember going out there when I was 17 to buy parts from him, haha

Congrats!

Who cares if the motor needs some repairs, you are the right man for the job! :waytogo: The most interesting part of this is going to be making that mile-long setup fit into that cute little 1st Gen K5!....

It could be worse I suppose, you could be trying to add a Doubler too. That's not part of the plan eventually is it? :dunno:

:usaflag:

Sooooooo 1st gen wheelbase is shorter than 73-91 blazers WB? I thought they were bigger :doah:

no doubler plans. just rock it out as is.

as for the motor I've got no concerns about overhauling it if I have to. I bet the cylinders might be washed from excessive idleing. as it was a service truck of some sort that didn't make many miles on the odometer. was probably a yard truck that idled too much. and about $80 for an O/H kit for the turbo. thats cake to do.

I notice theres no wastegate on this banks unit. whats that about? I thought they were wastegated.

the rhino is a driver has been since about Feb. I'm going to put a 2wd NV4500 into it pull the auto. put the F450 diffs I got under it and call it good. maybe sledpulling, camper haulings is its destination.

I saw a sweet sweet MINT 1st gen K5 on the road about 45 minutes ago. horny for one of those now. always loved them but now its time i think. If a 1st gen can get good enough mileage with this optimizer 6.5L mechanical engine. and the 4L80e. I might daily drive that and punt the jetta.

No reason you couldn't get 22-24 mpg (US gallon) or better with that drivetrain in a first gen...as long as it's geared correctly. You want to aim for about 1850 rpm at 65 mph in OD.

You are correct, no wastegate. I do not know why they did not do one, it would have only made the setup that much better. They put a HUGE exhaust housing on it to limit max boost, 1 A/R IIRC. Huge hot side = turbo lag off the scale. Pack a lunch type lag. The hot ticket is the turbo Banks put on the 7.3L NON-Powerstroke, .60 A/R IIRC. They put a smaller hot side with a wastegate and it spools much quicker. I had a Banks 6.2L in my dooley and SERIOUSLY considered putting one of these on it. There were a few times when I nailed it at low speed and the turbo was partially spooled and the damn thing flat out ripped!! I was extremely impressed!! Unfortunately, that G-spot of boost/engine speed was elusive, so usually it was just doggy.
*My Opinion* Look around for a different turbo before you buy a kit for the one you have.

this banks junk is already on the engine. came with the deal.

and spot on. I certainly noticed the size of the turbine housing. not very impressed with that.
