New UAV rear bumper pics

Thanks Steve for measureing it for me. I can't believe what you guys out there can get away with. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif I about s*&^ when I was talking to Scott at Rockstomper and he told me his Toy was street legal. I am still not sure what I want to do in the rear since I will most likely need a tire carrier but I like the looks of yours and I can make a bolt on piece to keep it street legal here and just remove it to wheel. The only other problem I might have to deal with is headlight hight and I am tring to figure out a way to cure that. I have seen guys running a set of snowplow lights mounted on their bumper but I think that looks ugly. I am thinking if I have to relocate them to flip the headlight and turn signels but that might get a bit involved. Also I have to have a rear licence plate light. Damn Pa laws suck wind. /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

I know Im going to get slammed on this comment...But the UAV is starting to look like a Baja rig now....But you do alot of rock crawling and it looks like the bumper will serve its pourpose......I was very impressed with your rig with the old tire and jerry can carrier.....I just think ( in my opinion) that your getting away from the K5 look.....I hope you welcome and appreciate everyones opinion

Tom

I'm sure.

It is capped.

I liked how the carrier got the tire out of the inside and how it looked, other than that it sucked, I could feel the weight of the tire while driving and while offroading it got in the way, even pushed it back into my tailgate a few times. I think it still looks like a Blazer, just not one that you see in front of the mall every day. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Oh oh...after measuring my rear bumper, I'm like 32.5" from the bottom of the bumper; and that's with worn out crappy 35" BFG's....MD law here is 31"....I hope no one pulls out the tape on me. /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif I aint worried though /forums/images/icons/smile.gif Drive by Five O all the time. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

Oh admit it Steve you tailgate go bent when you backed into that light pole at the mall show and shine.

Yeah, I think I scared my spotter when I hit the light poll so much he dropped the chrome polish.

LKJR - you live in Plano? I didn't know that. I live in N. Richardson..almost Plano...

Hey, Steve the bumper looks great! I do have a question though, how is that Hi-Lift mounted to the roll bar??

We'll see how the tank likes Gold Bar Rim, ledgy trails were the inspiration for the lower tube on my bumper being down by the bottom of the tank. It's a little beat up around the edges but overall it's holding up well.
Otherwise it looks like a page out of the toyota bumper books. Seems like those little guys got into the wraparound bumpers early on. For good reason, it's easy to get tired of replacing tail lights.

Same reason I built my tank skid the way I did. I use the cross bar of the Class II trailer hitch as the suport of the rear of a 3/16 plate the runs under the full length of the tank. Tellico has a lot of ledges you have to drop off and you will land on the tank. No way around it. Half the Jeeps in my club have smashed their factory skid and the gas tank. With the full skid when I drop off it will allow the back of the truck to slide off and nothing can get caught between the tank and the cross bar. Next thing it can hit is the bumper and it's only about 6 inch past the cross bar.

YIKES! I called up Avalanche to ask what it would cost to get one of those for my truck, and they quoted me $900! Don't get me wrong... the bumper looks good and all... but $900?!!! Sheesh... /forums/images/icons/crazy.gif

Welcome to the world of custom tube work. I fabbed up the light guards for my tail lights today, not quite done yet but it looks like I'll have between 11 and 12 hours in them by the time the paint dries. Even at a cheap shop rate that's $500 or so. Doesn't include material and that's starting with a bumper that was already built and installed. And that was starting after I figured out what I wanted it to look like.
Production tube work can be pretty economical but custom stuff takes a long time. That's why cheap tube benders are getting so popular. For $1K you can have the bender and past that tubing and your time are relatively cheap. As a "club tool" it gets even better since you can share the cost with buddies.

Yep, custom tube work is expensive but it sure is nice having a bumper that was made for MY Blazer and not one that is "one size fits all". The thing is this bumper is very CHEAP when compaired to the cost of a divorce that I would get if I spent any more time on the Blazer. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
