Edge of insanity
Hey guys had a question, the pump is going out on my 60 gallon 7hp porter cable air compressor, and Im wondering what size motor it would take to run a york in its place. I figured they can be rebuilt fairly cheaply from what I have heard, pretty straight forward to setup, wide availability, and maybe even a higher cfm rating for multi tool use. Just curious to your thoughts, I would like to run the stock 7hp motor with one if possible.

I have run one on a little 2hp lawnmower motor, but I had to use a VEEERY small pulley on the motor, essentially gearing it down, to generate enough torque to spin the York ... by which point it sure won't turn fast ;)

In your case, I suspect it would do much better, and if you happen to have a spare York, is easy enough to throw together a test setup.

You can also get purpose-built replacement pumps ... Harbor Freight has them, for instance...

they have a couple. This one says ~13CFM at 90psi, which is prolly more than a York.
