New welding jacket

I'm looking for a new one too. Report back how it holds up. If it holds up for you, it'll have no trouble for my use. :)

Should have reminded him that his new jacket is a winter color, too. Prolly need to get a lighter color to go with his shoes for the summer. :flipoff7:

Kert that looks like a nice coat. Probably something everyone that welds even a little bit should have.

I weld very little but grind quite a bit of crap and I always get holes in my clothes. :doah:

ditto on that Dean, I got a welding coat hangin on the wall too!
 
So far, very happy with the new welding jacket. It's holding up to the abuse nicely.

On another note, we have switched all hoods to speedglas. There really isn't much comparison.

I do not like the auto hoods. several times I have had something block the sensor so the hood did not 'see' the arc and did not darken. I have not seen any that will accept magnifier lenses (yea, I'm getting old). and lastly, I prefer to use the same hood to weld and grind, so a hood with a flip-up 2"x4" lenses allows me to flip the shaded lens and grind with the backing clear lens. the auto hoods that I've used would think the grinding sparks are arc and darken

My snapon does too
 
Most of the autos now, have a grind setting as well.

A good quality hood has sevreal sensors. These have 3. The more sensors there are the less likely you are to block them off.

But to each his own.

I've tried alot of autos over the years. Miller Elite, Jacksons, cheapy KT industries and others.

The Speedglas shames them all IMHO.

Is yours the 9100 series?

hmmm. they have made some advances. I will have to try one of these. I am an industrial welder and our company is trying to get all of us into an auto hood. I have yet to like one, but I have not used a Speedglass.
 
I have a Speedglass that's about 10 years old. Still works great after tons a abuse. I have had to change the batteries once so far and have changed the front protective clear lens dozens of times. It was about $300 bucks back then but was worth every penny.

Yep, 9100 with side windows. Not sure the side windows are much of an advantage or not.

If you're gona like one, it'd be one of these. I have talked to alot of guys that tell me they just can't see the bead good enough. Seems 90% of the time, they are using a cheaper auto. This was the first thing I noticed during the weld. How clear everything is.

To be honest, I don't use a shield much for grinding. Just getting into the habit of wearing actual safety glasses.

The 9100 speedglas also has a 5 shade which should work really good for torch and plas work i'd think.
