new welding toy i cant wait to try out ...... / upgrade has begun !

just picked me up a mag-mate WG200R welding clamp . the unit is rated at 200 amps and she has some clamping power of 150lbs .

only 2 bad things i see off the top are the ny-lock nut might melt from heat but thay say this unit is NOT to be in the area of over 180*f temps . and the bolt is HUGE dia and length . otherwise this thing is quality in fell and quality of work put in to it .

this should make welding a lot better as we all know sometimes finding a way to clamp the ground is hard to do .

i got to thinking this would prob work great for the plasma cutter also . . .

I have mag clamps on both welders and my plasma cutter.

They suck on aluminum.

I bolted a piece of plate steel to a spring clamp for aluminum work.

this was so much better for all the welding i did today on the work project .

well thats it . . . . yet another problem created with a new cool tool . just dropped 200ish bucks again .after all the times here in my home shop fighting ground cords here and there and how to get good ground it was o.k. . . . now after the last 1weekish at work back and forth and all over the place thats it i said . TIME TO UPGRADE !

1 more new clamp 300 amp rated tho . for the 2 welders as the one welder is 250 amp . then then this original clamp 200 amp rated will go to the plasma cutter ground .

next up is some dico style twist lock male/female connectors to upgrade the 2 welders .

going 2 ground sockets 1 for each welder yet keep them separate as some say o.k. some say not good to tie together . and there cheep anyway so play it safe . then there will be a ground clamp from 1 old to the new dico plug . and then a new ground with the 300 amp mag-mate to the other new dico plug .

i also got a 3 pack of male/female extension cord ends for the dico plugs the same size to let me make some upgrades later and or ext cords if need be .

few more things showed yesterday and today . already whipped up the mount for the 2 ground ports . just need to drill 2 holes and mount it up to the welder bracket after paint.

even used the angle mag today for the lift kit i built for my fire place insert . buy did that make the job so much faster and better in the end .

I need to make all my ground leads longer. Pisses me off I have 10-15 foot whips and a 5 foot ground. Wth?

yep .

new master ground will be prob same length as lead length . then fab table will get a short lead to it for plug and play ground . . . . off the 1" A36 plate top .

well i got the idea from my hypertherm plasma cutter and the older welders with the stick in sockets . so i just gave it my twist on the 2 together is all .

and i am working on another little project pics will be soon to pop up in here .

pics of the little project . this was my old farmer buddys welder setup he had me pick out for him years ago for his first mig as he was a stick welder guy for years and wanted to try something new . its been sitting over 6 years in the barn since he got real sick and passed away over 5 years ago . figured it was fitting for me to get it and use it and remember him every time i work it .

almost new older hobart 140 mig welder on a cart and with a bottle . all cleaned up and bolted to the cart and ready for action at work when i have little jobs there to do .

took home some old baggage loader belting and made a mat and back wall pad for the tank . then i made 2 self pads . lets just say this tin can cart rolls a LOT more quiet around a shop floor now .
